Character change
editWhomever wrote this needs to rewatch that first season - LaGuerta is EXACTLY the same in the show as depicted in the novel, at least according to this article. She is manipulative and several characters mention that she was promoted despite being a poor detective, but she filled the department's quota needs (gender and ethnically). It was commented on by several reviewers at the time that it was ballsy choice for Showtime to do it, something that would never be allowed on network TV.
