Talk:Maranta

why so much explanation

I know the disambig links to people of this name provide more information than is typical. Here is my reasoning: Disambig pages should help users find what they need most efficiently. It isn't efficient if the user has to click on two or three articles before finding the right person's name (which I've had to do on some pages). So my intention was to give enough orientation. Those who find the botanical author citation will be looking for the botanist; however, Bartolomeo Maranta was also a literary theorist, so for those coming from a 16th century literary perspective, it wouldn't be immediately apparent that a botanist was their man. The two names for the Roman Catholic church official may or may not be the same man with a typo; he has no independent entry, and it would be nice if someone coming to this page could sort out the question. So I've provided the two articles that are starting points. The Dragonlance character is discussed in the subsection given, and the disambig guidelines say not to pipe, so the full link was spelled out. When it comes to following rules blindly or not, I prefer to err on the side of offering additional help to users and inviting potential contributors to do so.
