Marat → Marat (disambiguation) — This is a combined move/merge proposal. Jean-Paul Marat is, IMO, the primary meaning of "Marat", so Marat should redirect there. We currently have two dab pages for the name, which should be combined. Tevildo (talk) 01:31, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose — Marat is a common surname, also a common given name, a place name, and the name of more than one ship, etc. Absent good evidence of a clear primary topic, the dab page should stay where it is, at Marat. --Una Smith (talk) 16:24, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- Comment - it isn't a common name, though. We have _no_ other articles on people _surnamed_ "Marat", and the three articles we have on people with the given name "Marat" are on an obscure Russian footballer, an obscure Russian cyclist, and (an admittedly well-known) Russian tennis player. All the other articles that use the word are related to Jean-Paul. Looking at the page itself should indicate that Jean-Paul is the clear primary topic. Tevildo (talk) 21:17, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- The dab page is due for expansion. I expanded it slightly, but there are more articles now with Marat as either surname or given name. --Una Smith (talk) 23:57, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- I note the Marat (name) page now says (with the appropriate "citation needed" tag, admittedly) that anyone called "Marat" is named after Jean-Paul. There may be a better case for Marat (name) to stay unmerged, but my main opinion on the primary meaning of "Marat" is unchanged. Tevildo (talk) 17:32, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

- Oppose merge we do have separate name articles on Wikipedia, they are not that uncommon. It is improper to have an article sit at a dab location, since the name article is an encyclopedic article about the use origin and meaning of the name, it should not exist as part of a dab page, per dab style guidelines. 76.66.192.35 (talk) 11:10, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Comment the list of names can safely be split from the name article and placed in this one though. 76.66.192.35 (talk) 11:13, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose move Marat Safin is a fairly famous person, and a very likely usage for "Marat" so the dab page should stay at the primary name. 76.66.192.35 (talk) 11:14, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
