DJ Judge Jules

edit

Hundreds of artists with Wikipedia articles have appeared on the DJ Judge Jules show. None of them bother to note it in their article. The reference here is pure WP:PUFF, unless the proponent can show a secondary source indicating that this appearance was independently notable. THF (talk) 19:18, 24 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thank you for your response...

You are 50% correct... The issue here is the comments he made championing the artist and his place in the industry as THE TASTEMAKER of dance... Only Pete Tong comes close to his visibility on radio, etc..

Speaking of Pete Tong, my rationale for leaving this in is that Chris Lake whereas his guest dj appearance on radio 1 with Tong is noted.. The only sources attached to it are blogs, but it did indeed happen..

I have found the show online and recorded the part so that you can hear the intro that is quoted: http://www.yousendit.com/download/U0d6RkJaMHdrYUIzZUE9PQ

Why don't you take a listen to it...

Its a bonafide reason...

As for One More Time, the Abercrombie & Fitch line, and the revised notations on top 40 radio in USA should stay.

Lets meet this middle ground and then worry about how to fix the economy ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Canuckdj (talkcontribs) 00:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's certainly something you can share in your Christmas cards and in your press releases. It doesn't belong in a Wikipedia article unless a reliable secondary source finds it notable. THF (talk) 00:58, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Then, the similar content should be deleted from Chris Lake about his guest dj spot, no? Understand, I'm not trying to fight you here, I am trying to understand what is the difference... Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Canuckdj (talkcontribs) 01:08, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Insert in to article:

Marc Mysterio has been a guest DJ on many radio shows such as Judge Jules on BBC Radio 1[1];. In introducing Marc's guest dj set, Judge Jules hailed Mysterio's ability "to effortlessly blend influences of metal, soul, r&b, and even folk music" in to his own songs and, moreover, as a result thereof "Marc is set enter the top level of artist/producer/dj in the world".

This is exactly the edit that we discussed above. Wikipedia does not link to yousendit.com. Please review our policies on reliably sourcing material. THF (talk) 03:33, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dear THF,

You are missing the point! It was a radio broadcast.. I can post it somewhere, myspace, and link to the audio file..... we are quoting spoke words here... you are an attorney i see so im sure you do this everyday. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Canuckdj (talkcontribs) 03:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Comment from a Marc Mysterio noob

edit

I was asked by a concerned editor to look at this article and I just want to find out what exactly is the issue with mentioning DJ Jules' show. (Please keep in mind that I'm totally neutral here.) If it's not done in a promotional or "puffy" way, is there a specific reason that it could not be noted? I realize that other artists who have appeared on his show do not mention it in their articles, but it does seem to confer notability since Jules is a well-known DJ (that's what I get from reading Judge Jules). Is the issue one of reliable sources, because verifying the broadcast depends on an mp3 floating around somewhere? It would be really helpful for future editors if they could be made aware of the conflicts surrounding the article. ... discospinster talk 00:39, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Purely a WP:RS issue. If you think the sources mentioning it are reliable, I won't contest your judgment, but the only source given was a yousendit.com bootleg of the show. I'm not married to any of my edits; it was merely my best good-faith attempt to clean up the page, but I recognize that music articles tend to have a lower standard for sourcing than most other Wikipedia articles. Do you seriously want to improve the article?

edit

If you seriously want to improve the article, and not make it a promotional piece, I'll actually help. I've got nothing in particular against Marc Mysterio: he seems to be a fairly minor DJ that may have a successful career in front of him. What I am absolutely opposed to is inflating the importance of facts to make him look better, the inclusion of quotes that do nothing to support facts about him and do everything to promote him, and the inclusion of trivial and unsourced charts. Mediabase is certainly a notable chart, and I have removed it not because it isn't notable, but because you have provided no source. We've talked about Cyprus before (and please don't pretend that you aren't the same anonymous editor that has fought with me before over this article), and you should understand by now that single station charts simply aren't included here. It doesn't matter if it's the only station in the country. Such charts are too easily warped by the personal preferences of a single station manager. Buzz charts, future music charts, charts that are listed on WP:BADCHARTS ... you should know better than that by now. Predictions about what will occur in the future are prohibited by WP:CRYSTAL.

Provide a dispassionate list of important statements about Mr. Mysterio, with sources to back them up, and I'll include them in the article. Provide a series of celebrity name-drops, promotional quotes, and fannish statements about his future career growth, and they will get removed, and are likely to get any accounts you create specifically in order to add them blocked.—Kww(talk) 17:36, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I am interested in improving the article and expanding it. All I have done is revert your changes and add extra sources. That took time of my life to do. I looked back at the article before your edits. There is only 1 quote. That is of an influential dj called Judge Jules. That was discussed on the artist talk page and deemed that it should be left there.

Aside from that, documented and sourced work with grammy winners, song charting on mtv in various markets (which took me some time to located) and inclusion on their album which went to top 10 on dutch sales charts, and other sourced info should be left.

As for how it is worded, you may be right that it is a bit puffy, but its not inappropriate. The user discospinster attempted to use more neutral wording.

Please cease your accusatory comments in this direction as they are unwarranted and unproductive, not to mention against the TSA of wiki to be civil at all times.

As for your conclusion that this artist is a 'minor dj', not sure what arbitrary criteria you are using to determine this. To me, if he works with big names, has chart success (and dance music charts are what success is based off of in that world), and works with grammy winners, that is significant.

I suggest you go back to the revision you made and replace absolutely everything that is sourced and notable.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.165.159.213 (talkcontribs)

I removed nothing that was sourced, notable, and met applicable guidelines. I'm sorry that you won't take me up on my offer. I actually am a good-faith editor, not a vandal (I'm a site admin, in fact). Let me know if you reconsider.—Kww(talk) 05:22, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

You most certainly did. When I have time, I will post the applicable things here with the noted references.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.165.159.213 (talkcontribs)

If you can point out places where I went too far, I will restore material. Keep the chart guidelines in mind, though: nothing listed on WP:BADCHARTS (like Russia), no single network charts (like MTV, Cyprus), and no charts without third party sources to corroborate notability (like the Dutch "Future Music Chart", the French buzz chart). I'd like to see other examples of articles where every radio DJ that had played the song was listed as well, if you want to put that section back in.—Kww(talk) 14:03, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sure. Sounds fair. As for MTV, they have a monopoly on the music video world, so being on there in multiple major markets, and included on their annual album (which hit the dutch sales charts top 10 as noted) is notable my friend.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.165.159.213 (talkcontribs)

Monopoly? Tell that to MuchMusic, BET, Fuse, VH1, Rage, Kerrang!, Scuzz, The Box and Q. iTunes charts don't even get listed, and that's much closer to a monopoly than MTV. Single vendor and single network charts don't get listed, even if that's the only available chart for a country or category.—Kww(talk) 18:29, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Much Music is owned by the same company as MTV Canada :) both were sourced in the article.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.165.159.213 (talkcontribs)

Still a single network chart: the charts aren't folded together to produce a composite.—Kww(talk) 19:26, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Either way, the international play on MTV, Much Music,Musiqueplus, TMF & inclusion on the TMF 2010 album which went top 10 on Dutch Charts is notable and sourced. Stations you mentioned above like BET are niche and only viewable in America. If you arent going to replace that, I really do not see how this is productive as we are not even discussing charts, rather, the success of a music video in many major markets that is sourced.
