Piaf; crash

edit

I put in proper dates and birthplace & cemetery. Plus, I removed false info on Edith Piaf. No matter how much the Marcel Cerdan fan who wrote this would wish it, they were not married and she did not have his child....DW

The following was entered on Talk:Sendmail, from where it likely had no effect on readers of this page's article; i moved it here in the last few hours. --Jerzy(t) 21:03, 2004 Aug 18 (UTC)

How can the great box champion Marcel cerdan have died in a Caravelle Plane, as he died un oct. 1949 and the first Caravelle french plane flew only in 1955!!
He died in the Açores island in an older plane, not in a jet!!!
People on the web write silly things, no matter what...

You are right, Marcel a Edith were not married but were very much involved as lovers. Another thing I was in another web-site re: Marcel Cerdan and it claimed that Marcel was killed in his own plane en-route to the States to fight Jake LaMotta, wrong. All 48 passengers on Air France were killed when the plane flew into a mountain in Sao Miguel, Azores and Marcel was to fight LaMotta in Spain. Ironically Jake LaMotta's son was killed in the Swissair crash in 1998.

Please don't describe Edith Piaf as a legend "in her own right". This phrase is offensive to women. She was a legend - period.

On the Edith Piaf page Cerdan is described as a "legend in France in his own right", I don't see this phrase as offensive to women.

Accuracy

edit

According to www.marcelcerdan.com, he beat Omar Kouidri in 1937, not 1938

"many boxing experts and fans to be France's as well as Europe's greatest boxer." Whoever wrote that has given no evidence whatsoever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.243.25.221 (talk) 09:58, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

DURING THE LAST WORLD WAR (1939 to 1945)THERE WAS A 'FREE FRENCH' NAVAL CAMP SITUATED AT A VILLAGE CALLED WESTBOURNE IN WEST SUSSEX, ENGLAND. MY FATHER WAS A WELL KNOWN NEWS JOURNALIST AND INVITED 3 OF THE MEN OVER TO OUR HOUSE IN HAVANT, HAMPSHIRE. THEY BECAME FAIRLY REGULAR VISITORS AND I HAVE A PHOTOGRAPH, TAKEN BY MY FATHER OF ALL THREE OF THEM. MY FATHER ALWAYS TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A CONNECTION WITH ONE OF THEM WITH MARCEL, IN FACT I WAS LED TO BE BELIEVE THAT HE WAS IN FACT ONE OF THE THREE IN THE PHOTOGRAPH.!! IS THIS POSSIBLE ?? IF SO I WOULD BE PLEASED TO POST THIS TO ANYONE INTERESTED.

Perhaps One Of The Greatest Middle Weight Ever.

edit
In 1947 when I was a boarder at a very rough school in India Marcel Cerdan became my hero. Those days in the forties there were no such things as Youtubes and videos and all the electronic facilities of the modern times. However I would see the brief Movietone news in the cinemas, and view a round or two of Marcel Cerdan's triumph over Tony Zale. I also remember that year in 1947 his return to the welcome he received as the champion of the world on his arrival to France after this great achievement in bringing a world title for France.
I started buying the Ring magazine issues as often as I could, and I use to read up all about this great boxer. Over the years champions have come and gone, some forgotten and some remembered, today boxing enthuiasts will always remember, and recall the great middle weights of the years past,Sugar Ray Robinson,Tony Zale,Rocky Graziano, Sugar Ray Leonard, Gene Hagler. Going back even further enthuiasts will recall Micky Walker tagged as "The Toy Bull Dog". Marcel Cerdan

will always be remembered as one of the best ever in the middle weight division. I am so happy that he is now in the American Hall Of Fame.

It is my opinion that Marcel Cerdan would have regained his title from LaMotta with no disrespect to the American. Today my hero is one and only Muhammad Ali, but, considering the world war and the hard times compared to now, how Marcel Cerdan notched 110 fights, and 106 wins

is amazing. What defeated Marcel Cerdan was fate. He will always remain in the top of my middle weight rankings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vispy banaji (talkcontribs) 10:58, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not clear

edit

'Cerdan campaigned heavily in the French territories of Algeria and Morocco during that part of his career, as well as in metropolitan France'.
