Excessive quotations, promotional tone
editI've rewritten one section of the article to remove some of the many quotation. There was very little original text. There are still a lot left, and some are promotional and cherry-picked quotes. I don't often work on articles about poets - can someone who does help out with making this a more neutral biography instead of a tribute?—Anne Delong (talk) 09:13, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
Order of Canada -- Year of award
editOne of these sentences appears to be redundant, but I don't know which one to delete, as they mention different years and are both cited with a footnote:
- Avison became an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1984.
- Avison was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1985.
Objectivesea (talk) 20:38, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
- New Order of Canada inductees are generally announced in December of each year, and are official as of the date they're announced, but the actual ceremony at which the person is formally invested into the Order isn't held until sometime the following year — and exactly as expected, Avison's entry in the Order of Canada database lists an appointment date of December 17, 1984 and an investiture date of April 10, 1985. So it's not so much that either sentence was wrong, as that the person who added the 1985 date misunderstood what it meant — she was named an officer of the Order of Canada in 1984, and 1985 is just when the actual investiture ceremony happened. Normally the investiture date doesn't need to be mentioned at all, because it's more a technicality than anything else: the substantive distinction is the appointment.
