A "4to" and "8vo"? Are these journal names or book styles? These should be glossed or linked to a relevant Wikipedia article or something. Boneyard90 (talk) 12:54, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

4to = quarto; 8vo = octavo; these are book sizes (actually sizes of the sheets of paper). My assumption is that the information is copied from a contemporary British source and at that time the abbreviations were normally used. Hope this helps.--FeanorStar7 (talk) 10:29, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
It does. Thank you. Makes me wonder why the original contributor didn't add that. Either (s)he assumes too much or copied & pasted from another source. I hesitate to edit the article accordingly, as it's not really in my area of expertise. Boneyard90 (talk) 17:52, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead and edited it to read "quarto" and "octavo" because clarity is more important than preserving a contributor's archaic shorthand (especially if it's likely that said contributor has basically plagiarized another work). 68.98.42.168 (talk) 13:06, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
