The illustration linked to this page is dated 1415, and indeed the lady is wearing a dress that was highly fashionable in 1415. It cannot be a likeness -- as it seems to be identified -- of Maria of Jülich-Berg, who was born in 1491. She may have been a later owner of the manuscript, or there may be another lady named Maria of Jülich-Berg, but the identification should clarify which.

Exactly. This is not Maria of Jülich-Berg, of course. It's Maria of Harcourt, duchess of Jülich and Guelders, who was married in 1405 to Reinoud IV, duke of Jülich and Guelders. It's not difficult to see, the german title of this image is "Herzogin_Maria_von_Geldern.jpg"... For a proper picture of Maria of Jülich-Berg, see HERE... United Duchies of Jülich-Cleves-Berg

The text says "United Duchies of Jülich-Cleves-Berg, which would exist until 1666", but, according to Treaty_of_Xanten it was splitted in 1614. I think clarification is needed there. -Theklan (talk) 08:38, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
