Pierre
editI think we should redlink Pierre Dorion, it appears he had a small role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Valfontis (talk) 21:12, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

The Pierre Dorion involved in the L&C expedition was Pierre Dorion I. Marie's husband was Pierre Jr. http://users.usinternet.com/dfnels/dorion.htm — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jafocat (talk • contribs) 20:49, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
The "personal correspondence" info is wrong... Holy Rainbow was the wife of Pierre Sr., not the Pierre Dorion married to Marie. This needs to be cleaned up. Cross reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Dorion_Jr. Jafocat (talk) 01:53, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
Birth-date in info box
editThe birthdate in the infobox should be 1786 not 1876 which is included in the citation- 1876 is 20 years after she died. I tried to make the change but got reverted. If someone wants to fix this. HamSalad (talk) 20:35, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- Good catch HamSalad, thanks! I fixed it. I don't know why you were reverted, but start using an edit summary, especially since you have very few edits and your username is a redlink. (Euryalus, be sure to skim the article in question when patrolling before reverting.) Cheers, Valfontis (talk) 12:05, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- My apologies, not sure what I was thinking of there. You are of course correct, and my revert was wrong. -- Euryalus (talk) 13:33, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
Washington Irving's book Astoria
editThis book should be cited and discussed. Due to it, Madame Dorian was a celebrity in her time, e.g. http://www.nps.gov/whmi/historyculture/a-celebrity-comes-calling.htm http://www.historynet.com/marie-dorion-and-the-astoria-expedition.htm (sorry, not sure of the Wikipedia etiquette for making these suggestions) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.114.93.51 (talk) 02:24, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
Native name
editWihmunkewakan, by the most sources I have been able to find, means "Holy Rainbow". Reverse searching the terms on the online lakotah dicitonary seems to confirm this. The only references I can find to her name being "Walks Far Woman" (which would be Wassabmosakwe) are from uncited works all dating to 2010+, and an anecdotal reference from Jane Kirkpatrick's research while writing her books. A descendant interviewed by Ms. Kirkpatrick claimed to remember her name meant "Walks Far Woman". http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=whitman&id=I1034
(Walks Far Woman also happens to be the title of a book by Clark Spurlock from 1976, and a 1982 TV movie based on said book, neither of which have to do with Marie Dorion but revolve around the author's Blackfoot grandmother)
I'm finding another source listing Marie's mother in law as being named "Holy Rainbow". This could be a case of crossed names - Marie's name may not have been Wihmunkewakan at all. http://www.museum.bmi.net/MARIE%20DORION%20PEOPLE/pierre__dorion_ii.htm

The more I look into this, Holy Rainbow "Wihmunkewakan" appears to be the wife of Pierre Dorion Sr., Marie's mother in law. Someone (rootsweb, I'm looking at you) seems to have confused Pierre Sr. with Pierre Jr (Marie's husband). Since "wihmunkewakan" appears to be a mistake, and "walks far woman" is anecdotal limited to one source, perhaps both should be removed from the article? Or at least Walks Far Woman should be flagged as single source anecdotal... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jafocat (talk • contribs) 15:53, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
