Work For Hire vs. Full Buyout
editEven with a "Work For Hire", the composer can collect performance royalties through the performance rights organizations (e.g. ASCAP or BMI) for the so-called "writer's share" of royalties. The production company doesn't pay for it, the broadcaster does. The article linked to Jon Burlingame's obit says that "...Constant sold all rights to his music to CBS..." which means a complete buyout. This is not identical to "work for hire" and that paragraph should be modified to reflect this. ThreeRocks (talk) 01:47, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
