Speculative
edit"is projected to increase the fraction of trips in Istanbul made by rail transport from 3.6% to 27.7%. If this takes place, Istanbul's rail transport fraction will be third largest in the world, after Tokyo (60%) and New York City (31%)."
sorry but this is clearly based on advertisement published on the company's site. Those are estimated numbers that may or may most probably not be met. an encyclopedia is hardly the right place for advertisements and guesswork. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.179.37.173 (talk) 16:17, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Hong Kong, Osaka, Nagoya, and Mumbai all have higher than 30% rail usage clearly the source is biased and incomplete I'm removing it. Steve chiu (talk • contribs) 21:25, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Section dedicated to excavations
editI think we might consider having a section dedicated to excavations and the finds (as opposed to covering them under the "problems" section). This project turns out to be quite instrumental in reaching artifacts that would otherwise be unknown to us. 33 Byzantine ships uncovered and the most recent find of 8000 year long human remains are just some examples... The latter is particularly exciting as it requires a complete rewrite of Istanbul's history, which used to advocate the first settlements around it started around 2000 BC. Most artifacts are also displayed in major museums, creating tourism attractions.
So, I think the contribution of this project on this social scale is quite exciting and worth presenting. Know of any other construction project with so large scale implications?Omer182 (talk) 15:56, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, the construction of the C line of the Roman subway ,which should cross the whole historic centre. Alex2006 (talk) 10:58, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
only commuters?
editIt's not clear from the article whether the tunnel will be used for long distance traffic (such as from Ankara), or only for commuter trains. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.101.163.219 (talk) 01:46, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- Your question is clarified in the article: The tunnel has two tracks which will be used for both commuter trains and long-distance/high-speed trains during the day, at night the tunnel could be used by freight trains also. --Wribln (talk) 15:20, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- What you write is quite interesting. I was in Istanbul last week and watched the works from the Banlyo Train on the european side. According to what you wrote the high speed trains should run on the Banlyo line too, but there is no trace of works to adapt it to the new trains. This means that we are still many years away from the start of this line. Alex2006 (talk) 16:15, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

"Some time" means "quite a while": It has been some time since we last had dinner together.
First non-sea/air crossing of the Strait?
editImportant article. It never (to my quick reading), though, says whether this is the first land (or undersea) crossing of the straits. Probably too obvious for y'all, but important for contextualizing the article. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 02:13, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Suburban??
editIn English, this means "dealing with the smaller towns that surround a big city". It does not mean "underground". Is this actually a commuter line for people living outside the city limits to travel to and from the city center? 75.151.57.113 (talk) 18:49, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Suicide Threat Scandal
editIs this a mis-translation? The source doesn't seem to exist, but I'm assuming they were threatened with death. How can you threaten someone suicide? 50.202.162.66 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:15, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
- I changed the wording, and the article works for me now. Firewall issue maybe, but it said "Turkish bureaucrats responsible for the construction of the Marmaray undersea rail link that connects the two sides of İstanbul reportedly threatened to commit suicide in order to keep Japanese workers on deadline." 50.202.162.66 (talk) 23:19, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Gallery needs update
editThe pictures in the gallery section are from the time of construction. Construction is long over and the line is operational. Old pictures need to be archived and new ones need to be added. -Dominator1453 (talk) 10:05, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree. Moreover, I would also welcome a picture of the sheeps which are grazing between Yesilköy and Bakirköy along the former railroad line, forcing me and many other people in Istanbul to travel by bus. Alex2006 (talk) 10:26, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

Tunnel Boring
editThis article appears to lack information about the tunnel boring. I think there were at least 5 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) used, one of which got stuck at it's reception shaft and had to be rescued. The tunnel boring was a major engineering project and ought to be covered either in this article or in an article of its own. FreeFlow99 (talk) 14:17, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
