More reddish tint
editmaroon has a more reddish tint, while burgandy is a deeper, leaning towards purple color. JIll and Brenton, YOU'RE BOTH WRONG. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.235.136.91 (talk) 07:17, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Bugs Bunny & "maroon"
editThe following sentence was added at the very top of the "Uses" section:
- For clarification purposes, the term "maroon" as used by Bugs Bunny was not referring to the color maroon, but rather, was Bugs pronunciation of the word "moron."
This sentence did not seem to merit such a prominent placement, so I deleted it. Alki 22:07, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Lake Worth High School
editLake Worth High School is listed under the section which says "colleges and universities with maroon as a school color". Dlkcsmith 22:55, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Maroon
editMaroon is brownish-red, not red-violet. Just look at the word "marron", Spanish for brown. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.214.175.60 (talk) 23:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Sports
editThe section on Sports needs to be organized, perhaps by professional leagues, colleges and universities, and high schools (secondary schools). Examples of better organization abound in Wikipedia (cf. Vikings, Bulldogs, etc.). PlaysInPeoria (talk) 23:55, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
US English?
editWebster's doesn't mention the color - is this meaning of maroon not used in American English? --Chriswaterguy talk 05:28, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's just a very flaky dictionary. Dicklyon (talk) 06:16, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
- It's definition three. On a side note, this is pronounced mah-rone in some parts of Australia, for some reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.113.233.113 (talk) 03:18, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Sports colors and school colors

Australian Pronunciation
editThe citation article for Australians pronouncing the word maroon differently is straight up just a random user-submitted opinion piece of a person saying "my mates told me it was pronounced this way, swear on me mum". As a Perth-based Australian myself, where the writer of that article claims to have been at the time, I have never heard this supposed alternate pronunciation used, and I would suggest that the claim be removed from the article unless a more credible source to cite can be provided.203.63.139.148 (talk) 17:38, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
Possible removal from list
editAn entry in List of colors: A–F contained a link to this page.
The entry is :
- Deep maroon
I don't see any evidence that this color is discussed in this article and plan to delete it from the list per this discussion: Talk:List_of_colors#New_approach_to_review_of_entries
If someone decides that this color should have a section in this article and it is added, I would appreciate a ping.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:08, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
