Samuel Morse: 5th or 6th cousin twice removed?

edit

I think the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) reference[1] got the genealogy wrong for Samuel Morse. The Morse brothers Anthony ("Anthony1") and William ("William1") sailed to America in 1635. The NAS reference says Samuel was a descendant of William1, so that Samuel and Marston would be 6th cousins twice removed. However, the other references[2]: 183 (Entry 2696), 217 (Entry 3297) [3][4] all say Samuel was a descendant of Anthony1, so that Samuel and Marston would be 5th cousins twice removed.

Genealogies (according to the other references):

  • Anthony1, Anthony2, Peter3, John4, Jedediah5, Jedediah6, Samuel7
  • Anthony1, Joseph2, Joshua3, Newbury4, Samuel5, Samuel6, Comfort7, Howard8, Harold Calvin Marston9
