Later life

edit

Does anyone know what he did after 1960? Were he lived? Is he still living? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.251.20.208 (talkcontribs) 01:30, 9 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I did check a number of sources but saw nothing. I would guess he sought anonymity and lived the rest of his life in obsurity. Piercetp 23:46, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I was wondering about that, too. He probably isn't going to be visiting VFW halls, that's for sure! A2Kafir 14:44, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cause for treason arrest?

edit

The article: "He was serving as a sergeant when the FBI rearrested him in 1948. He was charged with treason and sentenced to 25 years in prison." What did he do for the treason charge? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.79.148.26 (talkcontribs) 00:56, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is quite simple. His original arrest in 1945 was on his desertion from the US military. Joining an enemy force in war with the United States (Waffen-SS) and actively fought with them against the US is treason. --JNZ (talk) 06:40, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reason for defection?

edit

Did Monti ever reveal why he defected, either during his service in the Waffen SS, at his treason trial, or subsequently? What makes this puzzling is that he defected in October 1944, when it was obvious that Germany was losing the war. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.37.165.27 (talk) 16:20, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

He was a rabid anti-Communist who wanted to kill Reds on the Eastern Front. 75.76.213.106 (talk) 03:21, 28 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1. Where was the trial?
  2. In which prison was he incarcerated for all those years? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Starhistory22 (talkcontribs) 21:08, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. Why wasn't he tried for treason when he was first arrested when he surrendered in 1945? Was it because the Army didn't know who he was? The article doesn't make this clear to me. SilverWoodchuck47 (talk) 23:37, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
