The MAP-ML (in Spanish; Movimiento de Acción Popular Marxista-Leninista) is the Marxist-Leninist Popular Action Movement, not the Marxist-Leninist Party of Nicaragua. --Magicartpro17:30, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
On the other hand, in this article you name the MAP-ML as the Popular Action Movement - Marxist-Leninist. This is a literal translation from Spanish and is incorrect. Marxist-Leninist is the adjective that show us that this particular Popular Action Movement is in fact Marxist-Leninist, and not Liberal or Conservative. The adjective Marxist-Leninist must go first.
MAP-ML changed name to PMLN in 1985. Secondly, there is a difference between MAPML and MAP-ML. The hyphen indicates that the name MAP-ML consists of two parts, MAP and ML and that their internal order should be maintained. This form of naming is common in the communist movement, like RKP(b) or TKP/ML. --Soman19:44, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
If the MAP-ML changed its name in 1985, why doesn't it reflects on the official ballots in the 1990 & 1996 elections? The official name of the party according to the Supreme Electoral Council is Partido Movimiento de Acción Popular Marxista Leninista (MAP-ML). --Magicartpro23:46, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Most probably they never notified the electoral authorities of the change. MAP-ML was still I quite wellknown name, and they probably felt that it was best to keep MAP-ML as the ballot name. --Soman06:16, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
What's the right thing to do? Both the local media and the government electoral office stick to the MAP-ML name. Soman, do you have a link that refers to the change of name in 1985? Magicartpro20:29, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think we could work something out. I do aknowledge that even today, MAP-ML is a more commonly used even. The intro could be rewritten reflecting that the party was founded as MAP-ML, changed name in 1985, but that the old name continued being used, including for electoral purposes. I do however prefer 'Popular Action Movement - Marxist-Leninist' since that denomation is in line with communist naming conventions. (compare Communist Party of Greece (marxist-leninist) and Marxist-Leninist Communist Party of Greece). --Soman06:33, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
