improvements welcomed
editAs a relatively new user, I would welcome assistance with her family details (including maiden name, and dates). And if there is a suitable non-copyright image of her to be added to the infobox. The portrait by Stanley Cursiter is not (yet) in the public domain with some comment about copyright issues on the official Orkney museum site. Kaybeesquared (talk) 14:47, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Greetings from the snowy north - the article is a good start. I am afraid I have no new information to add but here's a few suggestions:
- Have a look at WP:LEAD.
- I tweaked the lead to give readers an idea of when she was active but there may be more at WP:MOSBIO about this.
- Images for the article will not be easy to find but there's one at Orcadian Women's Suffrage Society you could use - maybe there is one of the Temperance hotel?
- There was an Orcadian missionary called William Baikie - a relation? Ben MacDui 10:02, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Wrong name for article
editThe woman who was president of the OWSS is actually Mary Anne Stewart Baikie (née Traill) (1861-1950) who was married to Alfred Baikie of Tankerness, a provost of Orkney.
Mary Anne Baikie is pictured in this image: https://artuk.org/discover/artworks/mary-anne-baikie-milanne-nee-traill-167502
The couple had a daughter, Margaret, who is likely the woman in this image: https://en.wahooart.com/@@/AQSAVP-Stanley-Cursiter-Margaret-Baikie-of-Tankerness LesleyMitchell (talk) 18:30, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
LesleyMitchell thanks for your research identifying this; please edit - I suggest this would be a Move transferring this page to article named Mary Anne Baikie (or her full name if that was what she was mostly known as)and correct there before publishing. Apologies for any errors in the original / edits that caused confusion. Kaybeesquared (talk) 22:55, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
LesleyMitchell Hope you are ok that I have added the 'under construction' template to the top of the article, although this may attract attention. If you are able to share the citations for above points, I am happy to correct the article sections where appropriate as all the original suffrage events and citations are correct and checked the originals (refer throughout to 'Mrs Baikie of Tankerness'). Again apologies for creating under the wrong name. Kaybeesquared (talk) 16:45, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- That's brilliant Kaybeesquared. Don't worry about it too much, it's all fixable! :-)
- Thanks for creating the page in the first place! LesleyMitchell (talk) 21:13, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
