I am puzzled by Dictionary of American Biography's failure to mention Patrick's studies at Iowa State University, or at least the degree she got there, and how her work there reconciles with her apparently continuous work (by my reading of DAB) in Turkey. Perhaps a read of her autobiography would clear this up. Beyond this I have the problem that the two encyclopedias contradict each other on the title of the physiology text. After reading DAB, I decided in favor of "Armenian" over "American". DAB does not mention the book at all, but does mention her studies of the Armenian language.
