Title
editShould be Maryina Roshcha District, with capital R; place name capitalization does not work the same way in English as in Russian. Languagehat (talk) 20:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- Well, the current capitalization is actually grammatically wrong in Russian as well, but on the other hand, it is the official spelling of the district's name, and since it is romanized, not translated, the capitalization, I believe, should be carried over. There was a (very, very long) discussion about this between me and another editor at Talk:Nagatinsky Zaton District (the article was moved as a result), but since it was limited basically to just us two, and since we failed to convince one another, and since neither of us is a native speaker, nothing was done about other similarly-named articles (including this one). So, to sum it up: first, I believe this is an abnormal case warranting an exception; second, it's not our job to correct the mistakes in the sources; third, your opinion as a native speaker (and a linguist!) would be invaluable (but please read the discussion I linked to above, as there's more to this than meets the eye); and fourth, this could be just the topic you might want to cover in your blog on a slow day :) Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); May 10, 2012; 18:42 (UTC)
