Patent

developed using a patented M&H cross-stringing technique. What patent? I'm familiar with ones they used in pianos by J. P. Richardson and R. W. Gertz, but don't remember one for cross-stringing. Mireut 15:16, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Forefront

I've removed this sentence 'Mason & Hamlin was at the forefront, and the great virtuosos performed regularly on Mason & Hamlin pianos.' from the article, it's lifted more or less verbatim from the company's website. If you feel inclined to put it back up, please find a more objective source. Alexrexpvt 17:53, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good catch. To an extent, the statement is true, but M & H was primarily an American used brand, their heyday was the 19th Century, and how many virtuosos were in America prior to 1900? The piano culture, for lack of a better term, was in Europe at the time. In the insterest of full disclosure, I worked for M & H from 1990-94.THD3 21:04, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually, Mason & Hamlin's "heyday" was not in the 19th century, but rather in the early 20th century, from around 1900 - 1932. They were Steinway's primary competitor, and many considered these to be the elite American piano of the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.73.64.145 (talk) 19:28, 4 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I removed the "tension resonator" section, partly because it was copied from Mason & Hamlin's website, but also because the claims are misleading, since in most modern pianos the part the soundboard is attached to is also firmly attached to the iron frame. I took out the vague "manufactured elsewhere" part citing Larry Fine and flagged the "started 1945" statement, but this flowery bit also needs to be replaced: "By the turn of the 20th century, the Golden Age of the Piano was in full force and the most illustrious concert artists of the day aligned themselves with piano manufacturers." - Mireut (talk) 22:39, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since the Tension Resonator is unique to Mason & Hamlin pianos, it deserved at least passing mention in the article. I've inserted information but in a neutral manner.THD3 (talk) 17:39, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wow 5 years later and THD still think this is appropriate for this article. Cosprings (talk) 15:53, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
