Eine katholische Messe zur Brucknerzeit
editOn 2 April 2010, Hans Roelofs wrote "(translated) Eine katholische Messe zur Brucknerzeit (Fabian Records CD 5116) … offers a charming program - this is what a Pontifical Office might have looked like in the past, namely a Mass (here the first in D minor), alternated with short organ works and motets, all by Bruckner; conductor and organist is Rupert Gottfried Frieberger. But not only the possible musical sequence of such a pontifical ministry is "reconstructed" to a certain extent, but at the same time the ambience of the premiere is offered here: the location of the performance is the rood screen of the Old Cathedral in Linz. This limited space naturally determines the size of the orchestra and choir. In addition, the orchestra plays on instruments of the Bruckner time. The result takes some getting used to at first, but can claim authenticity. Since the organ of the Old Cathedral has retained its historical sound, the organ works also sound as Bruckner himself may have played and heard them. All this is reason enough to listen to this CD, even if not everything is perfect: rood screen space and church acoustics influence the sound, and a concert recording never offers the perfection of a studio recording; but the listening experience compensates for this abundantly."[1] --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 17:48, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Unreleased recordings
editGerd Schaller performed the Mass in D minor with the Kühn Choir and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra on 1 September 2019 as part of the Ebrach Summer Festival 2019. This live performance was not released commercially. As far as I know, the only recording at the moment is the private CD Belvedere BEL-2101.
There are other good performances of the Mass in D minor that have not been released, e.g. by Ioan Oarcea at Musica Coronensis 2009 (Braşov, October 2009), John Eliot Gardiner (Munich, 30 May 2014), Mattias Giesen in St. Florian's Basilica (13 August 2018) and Markus Landerer on Pentecost Sunday in Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral (28 May 2023).
