Building demolished
editThe Massachusetts Mental Health Center site at 74 Fenwood Road is being redeveloped in accordance with this plan: http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2009/05/20/residential_units_medical_center_envisioned_for_mission_hill_area/
I visited the site today. The building is no longer there. We will have to hope someone can find a historic photo that someone can donate to Wikipedia under a free license. —Tim Pierce (talk) 04:34, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Which article for NRHP listing?
editThis article declares the Massachusetts Mental Health Center to be on the National Registry of Historical Places, and indeed the NRHP listing is for the "Massachusetts Mental Health Center". But the listing cites the architecture of the building formerly known as the Boston Psychopathic Hospital -- now demolished (see above), but it does have its own article.
Stated another way, first the old building was renamed from the Boston Psychopathic Hospital to the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, then it was listed on the NRHP under the new name, then the historical building was demolished and the center reestablished at a new location. So the article that currently shows the NRHP designation is for a center at a different location and without the historically-significant architecture.
So the questions are, which article(s) should have the NRHP listing, and which geographical coordinates go on which article?
Personally I think the NRHP listing should go on the Boston Psychopathic Hospital article (even though that name does not match the one on the NRHP listing), but this is certainly debatable. (Perhaps both articles should have the NRHP listing?)
The geographical coordinates on this article are wrong -- they match neither the exact location of the historical building or the current center, which is at 42°20′9.8″N 71°6′31.4″W / 42.336056°N 71.108722°W. I have adjusted the coordinates on the Boston Psychopathic Hospital article to more exactly match the location of the historical building, which is clearly visible in Google Earth's historical imagery. I believe this article should show the coordinates of the current Mental Health Center -- but again, this bugs me, because those aren't the coordinates of the building the NRHP listing on this article is talking about. —Steve Summit (talk) 11:37, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Proposed merge of Boston Psychopathic Hospital with Massachusetts Mental Health Center
editThese two stub articles seem to be discussing essentially the same topic, with one being a historical precedent of the other. I don't see why both can't be discussed in a single article for comprehensive treatment and context. --Animalparty! (talk) 00:06, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- It might be best to move the pre-demolition material to Boston Psychopathic Hospital, and then keep Massachusetts Mental Health Center for the modern facility. While the name is shared, it's not clear from sources I can find that the modern center (or centers) acknowledge historic continuity with the Boston Psychopathic Hospital. I've added some external links to websites for two different facilities using the Massachusetts Mental Health Center name. Klbrain (talk) 07:21, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
- I combined the text and infobox in the Boston Psychopathic Hospital article. This will work if the name was changed. WP:HOS -- Talk to G Moore 13:15, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- @G. Moore: I'm being a bit slow; not sure precisely what the proposed name changes are. Could you clarify? Klbrain (talk) 13:25, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Klbrain: The text in Boston Psychopathic Hospital contains the content but the article should be named Massachusetts Mental Health Center. The name of the article would be the most recent name and the article should explain previous names. It might be best to move the content to Massachusetts Mental Health Center and make Boston Psychopathic Hospital a #REDIRECT to Massachusetts Mental Health Center. -- Talk to G Moore 14:39, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
Citations needed
editRaising this issue again as others have. May do this myself soon but I am working on a big list of to-dos.
There are, as of this post, 2 references, both to the NRHP. One is for the nomination, which is a dead link with no archive. The other goes straight to the NRHP search page. Mangocove (talk) 17:02, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
