History and commentary
editThe history section is entirely paraphrased from Neilbert.com (although the note that the new route from Goshen to Buckland followed an existing road was my own, from personal observation born of repeated travel along 112 from 9 to 2). In observing the current routing of 56, I note that it goes nowhere near Shelburne. It's impossible for me to determine whether it was truncated long ago, with other numbers picking up its old route, or if the original route 56 was retired and later brought back on the current road.
I'd like to say something about the condition of the road between Worthington and Cummington (which is to say, it's barely more than a local road, narrow and with sharp curves), but I couldn't really come up with a neutral way to say it. --Mr Wednesday 21:52, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Oops, looking at Neilbert.com again, it would appear that the routing to Vermont was previously the entire Rt 56, which was then re-used elsewhere. --Mr Wednesday 22:02, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
