Commonality

edit

"Massachusetts State Highway 1A is an uncommon bypass route of U.S. Highway 1 that extends from Boston, Massachusetts to Newburyport, Massachusetts." What's uncommon about it? Does it disappear frequently? FZ 00:50, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I guess I'm at a loss to think of any other bypass-style routes for U.S. (non-interstate) highways, so I consider it an uncommon phenomenon. KeithTyler 01:01, Jul 13, 2004 (UTC)
Ah, makes sense. FZ 01:43, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Split

edit

I presume the split suggested is for the various pieces of Route 1A. I would oppose such a move.

The reasoning is, fundamentally, that the split would imply that there are four highways named Route 1A in Massachusetts. This isn't true: there's only one Route 1A, and it runs 94 miles from Attleboro to Salisbury. As the EOT GIS data show, Route 1A in Boston continues from milepost 48, picking up from Route 1A in Dedham (milepost 27) after being hidden by higher order highways for 20 miles. In fact, the example given for higher order highways hiding mileposts of lower order highways is the Southeast Expressway, which is I-93, US 1, Route 3, Route 1A and Route 3A. I'm going to eliminate this tag since it's been 3 months with no support for a split. JohnnyBGood t c VIVA! 01:16, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
