This article is out of date. Changes as follows:

Machine Gunners Course vice Platoon Support Weapons Course and no longer manditory.

Primary Leadership Qualification and PLQ module 6 are now the only course qualifications for a MCpl

Well, you can change it if it's wrong. -- Necrothesp 11:08, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

MCpls are Section Commanders Now?

edit

Have things changed since my time in? When I was in MCpls were section 2ICs, and Sgts were section commanders. Has this changed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.47.218.54 (talk) 06:44, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

In my very limited military career, there are many Section Commander positions being filled by MCpls. When I did my BMQ, 3 out of the 4 sections had a MCpl as a Section Commander. Much like how Sergeants can be called to fill out positions of Warrants, Master Corporals can be called to fill out positions of Sergeants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.122.69 (talk) 03:46, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

infantry requirements for MCpl

edit

The policy now is that a corporal in the infantry must now have the DP2A, which is the Platoon Support Weapons Course, prior to attending PLQ mod 6(Inf). The infantry has its own mod 6, which basically contains the same instruction and evaluations, with some additions, but with more critical requirements in each evaluation. The 6A is not included in this course as it was in th ISCCourse, and the 6A indeed no longer exists at all.

Rank Changes forthcoming

edit

Defence Minister Peter MacKay announced:

The ranks of non-commissioned officers will also be returned to the original British Army and Commonwealth designations.

The decision means the rank of private, within the army, will be virtually eliminated and replaced with trooper, bombardier, fusilier, rifleman or guardsman, depending on the unit.

This may potentially impact M/Cpl, which does not exist in the British rank structure. 216.65.182.66 (talk) 22:00, 10 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rank in other armies

edit

The rank exists in some African armies, and perhaps elsewhere, for example Benin Army ranks and CAR Army ranks I don't know anything about the history or the responsibilities of the rank in those armies but the article should include some reference.Boreas74 Speak Softly 15:05, 4 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
