Matthieu MaraisMathieu Marais – The baptismal act of Marais quoted in the preamble of Journaux et mémoires (ed.1863) says he received the name of "Mathieu", and in a letter to the president Jean Bouhier (dated of September 5, 1724) Marais wrote his name with the same spelling; "Matthieu" is posterious: the first time it appear is in the Ouvrage de La Fontaine (ed.1823) & biographical dictionaries — the Wikipedia article is a translation of the Didots brothers Nouvelle biographie générale (ed.1860). The links of the authority control attest of the correct writing. François-Etienne (talk) 18:49, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Steel1943 (talk) 19:18, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
This article has been at its current title for almost 14 years. Might as well give it the opportunity to have at least 7 days of potential discussion. Steel1943 (talk) 19:18, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well, no offense but there's no need to talk for me: Marais & friends wrote his name Mathieu, the baptismal act speaks for itself & the sources show that Matthieu is posterious. 🤔-- François-Etienne (talk) 20:56, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nomination. As pointed out by Steel1943, this article has been part of English Wikipedia for a long time (since November 2005) and Italian Wikipedia has had an entry for him (as Matthieu_Marais, likely based on English Wikipedia's main title header) since February 2007. The nominator, obviously an expert on the subject, has created an article for Mathieu Marais in French Wikipedia less than 36 hours ago and English Wikipedia (as well as Italian Wikipedia) should follow suit as far as the spelling of the given name is concerned. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 05:37, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
