Major results section
editWhat is best:
- The article with only a link to a separate "results" article[1]
- The article with a summary of the most important results here, and a link to the full results article[2]
User:Sebas1953 supports the former, I support the latter. Without overwehelming the article (it is only 3K, on a 36K page), it concisely shows the major results, the highlights of a career, without people needing to either go to another page (with much more results, so less easy to skim) or to read the article to find out these major victories. It presents the best of both worlds, while still keeping the link to the full results available. Basically, nothing is lost and something is gained. Thoughts? Fram (talk) 08:37, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- I personally support the first idea: "The article with only a link to a separate "results" article". The trouble with the second is what defines a major result. Plus his major results are already listed in the info box so it would be a repeat with no extra information. Paulpat99 (talk) 17:44, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Undue weight junior career
editIs it fair to say that the article gives undue weight to MvdP's junior career. Sure, his world titles are notable, but rest less so. 90.143.137.36 (talk) 18:09, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Too complicated introduction + Undue weight junior career
editAm I alone in thinking that van der Poel's introductory paragraphs are a mess? There is too much focus on individual races, and we certainly don't need to mention the cities that these championships took place in, do we? I also support the above commenter who noted the focus on van der Poel's junior days. Can we instead summarize his career achievements. I've rewritten the introduction below:
---
Mathieu van der Poel (born 19 January 1995) is a Dutch professional cyclist who rides for the UCI WorldTeam Alpecin–Deceuninck. Known for his versatility, he competes in several disciplines including cyclo-cross, mountain bike racing, gravel cycling, and road bicycle racing.
Van der Poel has an impressive record, with six Cyclo-cross World Championships (2015, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023) and one Road World Championship (2023) to his name. He has also won multiple stages at grand tours and has numerous classics victories, including winning the Tour of Flanders twice, Milan–San Remo, and Paris-Roubaix.
The van der Poel family has a strong legacy in professional cycling. Mathieu's brother, David, is also a successful cyclo-cross racer. Their father, Adri van der Poel, was a six-time Dutch National Champion, and their maternal grandfather, Raymond Poulidor, was a renowned French cyclist known for his win at the 1964 Vuelta a España, and his multiple podium finishes at the Tour de France.

- Everyone has a different view on this I would think, but I go for short introductions that can be then expanded in further sections. If no-one else gives an opinion I would WP:BEBOLD and move things to other sections to make things better? - Master Of Ninja (talk) 09:38, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Master Of Ninja The lede is a complete mess, way too much detail. Why would minor races such a Grand Prix Wallonie even be mentioned? I personally wouldn't even list all his monument victories or every single world championship (especially the junior ones). 90.143.141.72 (talk) 21:42, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
