Bjork
editarticle doesn't mention he's married to bjork at all, and can someone explain to me what a "self-enclosed aesthetic system" is? i just like the pretty cinematography Frankyfatso (talk) 06:40, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I've addressed both issues in the article.—DMCer™ 10:38, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
This entire discussion item should be removed. Also, the link to the SF MOMA is now dead and should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.239.66.183 (talk) 13:55, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
This entire discussion item should be removed as it is a waste of space and adds nothing substantive to the discussion about Barney. Also, the link to the SF MOMA is now dead and should be removed.
Mathew Barney criticism
editI read an essay where the Author discusses critical theory and Tolstoi, and I think it reflects on Mathew Barney. I'll dig up quote attribution later. In any case, it was said:
And one common kind of pseudo-art is that which pretends to be very hard to understand, subtle and abstruse, so that only a very exclusive few, a few extremely cultured people, can understand it.
I think this explains Mathew Barney quite well. His art exists only to amuse bored and idle people with too much free time and too much intellectual education. The pretentious complexity apparent on the surface of his work serves to mask the lack of any cogent meaning or connection to the world in his works when they are analyzed further. We are supposed to mistake elaborate complexity for genius, and shock value for artistic talent.
Let's not forget this guy was a jock; an athlete and sports player. While I am not suggesting that bodes poorly for his intellect, his art reminds me of angry high school students trying to express themselves and failing to exert intellectual discpline and succumbing to cliches, melodrama, and pseudo-intellectualism.
Also, is there any doubt that his fame has been bolstered in no small part by his relationship with Bjork? Kind of like a Courtney Love to Kurt Cobain kind of deal.
- Yes, of course! Amazing! His art does only exist for the reasons you've given, I understand that clearly now! Such clarity I now know, Lord! That he is an athlete is further indictment for this, you are right! Who can take him seriously when they know this secret! His work is all meaningless and there is no possible explanation for any of it, like you ssay! None at all! I had not even heard of this man before I saw him in a paparazzi picture with Bjork either! He was a nobody before she rescued him from a gutter, you are right, my intelligent friend, so right that it hurts my coconut!--Frédéric Chopin 2027 07:29, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with F. Chopin 2027. I also find the title of this section biased and inappropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.211.1.180 (talk) 03:41, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Seriously though, there should be something in here about artistic fraudulence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.90.138.104 (talk) 03:26, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
I have corrected the place where he was born (every other site I have consulted says he was born in San Francisco, including the other Wikipedia versions) AZO
Are we sure that Bjork is his wife? I recall they are merely partners; imdb.com lists them as such (she is his girlfriend).
Exactly. Bjork and Matthew Barney are just longtime partners.
Barney's page says Bjork is his former partner, and the superscript leads to an inactive page.
What work did he do with the lead singer of the Children of Bodom?--Joyfulpotato 05:04, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- I can't find any information at all about that so I've removed it. --Frédéric Chopin 2027 06:57, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
barney in porky's
editis this a joke? there doesn't seem to be any other evidence on the net of his involvement in "porky's".
That's absurd. Porky's used people with at least some acting ability, has been viewed by millions and had a plot. 65.29.65.230 08:20, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
spaced
editcan somebody explain the connection to the tv show spaced, from which a picture is prominently displayed? is it just a similar style of art being mocked? or is there an actual connection to barney? 142.59.135.116 07:36, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- There was a paragraph of "funny" criticism along with it but it wasn't being shown due to tag errors. There's no connection with Spaced, there was just some amazement that the clown in Barney's film looks similar to the clown in that TV show. --202.147.117.202 09:18, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Recent Deletions
editI'm not sure if it was just vandalism, but large chunks of content, all sourced, were recently dumped by editors with no comment. Do us all a favor and spell it out, or dont do it. Pablosecca 11:54, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
It's strange that one section dumped was Critical Analysis... Jonpatterns (talk) 10:48, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
River of Fundament Show Program
editI attended the River of Fundament screening at UCLA Saturday night and have the program. It's full of information like synopses of each act, actor billing, song lyrics, etc. There's a lot of information that I'd like to share, but I'm new to contributing to wikipedia and I'm not sure what's the best way. I'm open to scanning and posting the program and even typing it out. Please let me know what's the most useful way to contribute this information. Thanks! Awake7two (talk) 07:34, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
