POV Language ("kidnap")
editI've edited the language of the article to refer to Guantanamo prisoners as having been "captured," not having been "kidnapped." The former is factually accurate, while the latter implies illegality (and while I agree that "extraordinary rendition" is morally wrong, it's unclear and disputed as to its legality). Even POV aside (though that's clearly the most egregious violation), "kidnap" is not a synonym for "wrongfully imprison," as the former implies actions by a non-state entity (individual or criminal organization), "typically to obtain a ransom" according to Oxford, while the latter is a more accurate descriptor. S. Ugarte 00:38, 3 June 2007 (UTC) I've edited this page in light of changes made after I offered opposing views as well as raised issues on Matthew Diaz' treatment by the Bush Administration and the Attorney who has made it his mission to ruin his career and prevent him from practicing law. This attorney has recently been revealed as part of the group of Administration Officials who are under a shadow of potential criminal acts up to and including violation of the War Crimes Act. I have attempted to contact S Ugarte, who does not have an email to discuss how to handle the editing of this article. At a minimum it should be linked to his defense attorney and the torture debate pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.137.132.12 (talk) 01:26, 17 April 2008 (UTC) User Kathleen Lind email attached.

The Scott Horton quote
editAnother contributor added a paragraph that seemed to be a long quote from an article Scott Horton wrote. It was problematic for several reasons.
- It is unclear to me whether it belonged in that section;
- It wasn't referenced in our usual style;
- When I looked at the source article it didn't seem to be a direct quote, after all.
So I changed it. I shortened it, including only material that was a direct quote.
I think we still need to figure out whether a Scott Horton quote belongs in that section. Geo Swan (talk) 20:05, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Role of Barbara Olshansky
editThis explanation of Olshansky's motivation in referring the list to the authorities is unsourced. It should be sourced or removed IMHO.Phantomnubian (talk) 12:08, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
responsible use of tags
editA {{article issues|cleanup=March 2009|external links=March 2009|update=March 2009}} tag was added to this article in March 2009.
IMO those who leave tags like this really should feel obliged to leave a comment on the talk page, explaining what they think needs improvement.
I am removing the update clause, as the article is up to date.
If no one offers an explanation as to why the remaining clauses should remain I will remove them, after a reasonable period of time. Geo Swan (talk) 15:35, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
