Terrorist
editBefore using the word terrorist it would be wise to read this WP:WTA#Extremist.2C_terrorist_and_freedom_fighter.
- As I said previously, suicide bombings are uncontroversially terrorist attacks. It would make little sense to discuss an "attack, which Israelis, Palestinians, Americans and Europeans have labelled terrorist". TewfikTalk 21:40, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
It doesnt matter if the entire world believes it is a "terrorist" attack, we have to respect policy whether we like it or not. Also how can you state that they are "uncontroversially terrorist attacks"? Did the bomber believe he was a "terrorist"? Does Hamas belive that it was a "terrorist" attack? How would you feel if someone called it a "martyrdom" operation? Lets try to stay neutral, and avoid taking sides. The readers can come to their own conclusion.IP198 22:09, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- If the entire world believes it is a terrorist attack, then policy has no problem with it. A terrorist need not self-identify as such to be included in Category:Terrorists. The point you raise about Hamas makes sense, and so policy would dictate that their position be listed since it is the exception (which I believe it is on their entry, but there may be other places for mentioning their view). I'm not sure what your point is about the phrase "martyrdom operation". Neutrality is exactly the point, since we are meant to dispense with fringe points of view in favour of mainstream ones. TewfikTalk 22:51, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Listen, no mainstream neutral source(BBC, Reuters) will use the word terrorist. They will use sucide bomber and militant, unless they are quoting someone. Many Palestininans and many people in the Arab and Muslim world dont view this as terrorism, so its not a fringe opinion. I dont know what else to tell you, but if you want to include the word terrorist get the policy changed. IP198 23:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Nonsense. The BBC uses it all the time - see for example here, or here Mr. Hicks The III 18:03, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
