First Hispanic Mayor?
editI don't think the statement that Ferre was the first Hispanic mayor of a "major" US city is accurate. There are a number of other Hispanic mayors that pre-date him, including Cristobal Aguilar, Antonio Francisco Coronel and Manuel Requena(Los Angeles) and more recently Raymond Telles (El Paso). I think it should read that Ferre was the first Hispanic mayor of Miami. Any thoughts?--MiamiManny 01:57, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- You asked asked for a reference and it was provided. Los Angeles nor El Paso were considered major cities during the periods (mid-1850's) in which these men were mayors. However, since this can be a subject which can be viewed in different ways by different people, it would be much better to state a more politically correct statement by posting that Ferre was the first Puerto Rican mayor of Miami. - Telles was a mayor in the 1950's. I actually think Ferre was the first mayor in the US who was born in Puerto Rico and the first Hispanic mayor of Miami. That's pretty notable and goes beyond posting that Ferre was the first Puerto Rican mayor of Miami. --MiamiManny 15:16, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- MiamiManny, you are right, I like the way you rephrased it better, so I will go ahead and do the same to the article. Tony the Marine 19:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Why can't I find Mr. Ferre's mother's maiden name? Did he only have a father? Are they hiding something? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.85.1.236 (talk) 00:14, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Moved
editAs Ferre does not use the accent in his last name (see his campaign site), I have moved this article to Maurice Ferre. Horologium (talk) 15:55, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
