editThe Portsmouth station referred to here would probably be WAVY. There is only one other station in Portsmouth (WGNT; then WTOV) and that station had gone dark and wouldn't go on air again until Pat Robertson got it in 1961.

Was he really the first black news anchor?
editShould he be considered the first black co-anchor instead of first black solo anchor? He shared the stage with two other people.
