Talk:May 2022 Midwest derecho

Declined draft

edit

I noticed that this draft has been declined on the grounds that part of the discussion is about tornadoes produced by the derecho. I left a message on the talk page of Robert McClenon, who reviewed the submitted draft, indicating that I disagree with this rationale because tornadoes are a common product of derechos. In other words, these are not separate events. I did not receive any response, though, and some feedback on how to proceed would be helpful. TornadoLGS (talk) 19:27, 6 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

It was me who wrote the whole Meteorological synopsis of the draft, and decided to include a small bit about the occurrence of tornadoes, because I am similarly accustomed to seeing information about tornadoes in derecho articles. So I saw the decline of the draft as something related with its length and maybe insufficicent information, but now I'm a bit ticked off, because it was apparently because of the presence of "multiple events" in the same draft. What I could advise we do is to enrich the draft further, and ask for another reviewing process with another administrator. I have a few options, as the two tornado outbreak articles I started in March were both reviewed, so I know their usernames.
But we do need to think if this article is as noteworthy as the Canadian derecho article, which caused more deaths and interfered with local elections. Mjeims (talk) 23:07, 6 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@I dream of horses: Tornadoes are a part of derechos. Nothing needs to be done. What this article is being declined on is directly saying that almost every single derecho article needs to be draftified and redone to remove all references to tornadoes, which are caused from derechos. I would ask you reconsider. Elijahandskip (talk) 18:50, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Actually, there is a very easy and simple (but completely annoying) way to do exactly what Robert McClenon asked. I will do that now and split this into two separate articles (May 2022 Midwest derecho & Tornadoes during the May 2022 Midwest derecho), then let a merge discussion take place to merge them back together in the future. Simple. :D | Or on that same note, I could just move this article into mainspace since I see no issues with it as a WP Weather member. Elijahandskip (talk) 18:54, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Split Article

edit

As painfully requested by multiple AfC reviewers, I have now begun a 2nd draft to split the tornado outbreak section out of this article. I have no doubt that a simple merger can merge them together sometime in the future, but to get this into mainspace, it is apparent that it must be split. Draft:Tornadoes during the May 2022 Midwest derecho. Elijahandskip (talk) 22:09, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Eh, sounds like an unnecessary content fork, and I'm not sure the tornadoes are notable if separated from the derecho. This is also being discussed at I dream of horses's talk page. We would, alternatively, include a see also link to List of United States tornadoes from May to June 2022#May12. That being said, submitting two articles and merging them later to get around the declined submissions would be dishonest, and I would not support it. TornadoLGS (talk) 22:17, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
