I have to disagree, with some expansion and work this could be a very good article. Deletion would also defeat the objective of the Wiki Schools Project, as the majority of articles it deals with are of this type, and more notable education establishments articles are with other projects, such as Wiki Universities Project. Note that a very similar debate was carried out on the City of Portsmouth Boys' School some months back. This went to a formal vote and the consensus for this and similar articles was KEEP. Hyperman 42 23:00, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Who has for some reason, either simple mischief, dislike of the city of Portsmouth England or its educational establishments or some other reason not apparent, decided to repeatedly call by one method or another for the deletion of a set of articles.

It might be suggested that the user is attempting by a series of guerrilla actions to use Wikipedia policies and procedures in an attempt to get administrators to remove all traces of many if not all educational establishments in the Portsmouth area.

While the standard of some of these articles is poor, their removal will not encourage those who have an interest in them to make the necessary improvements to bring them up to an acceptable level.

Deletion would also defeat the objective of the Wiki Schools Project, as the majority of articles it deals with are of this type, and more notable education establishments articles are with other projects, such as Wiki Universities Project.

Callaghan

I spotted a mistake on the James Callaghan PM article and corrected it. Following the link to Mayfield school I have removed the comment about former PM James Callaghan attending Mayfield. He was educated at Portsmouth Northern Secondary School as stated on the website of 10 downing street. He did not attend Portsmouth Northern Grammar School (Mayfield). Portsmouth Northern Secondary School is the City of Portsmouth Boys School and to be sure about his attending there, there is a wall monument to James Callaghan about him attending City Boys in the main auditorium.

LordHarris is correct in stating that James Callaghan was educated at Portsmouth Northern Secondary School but incorrect in stating that this is now the City of Portsmouth Boys School. The latter was set up in 1975 from the Technical High School and Hilsea Modern Boys School. Not only do numerous city archives show that the Northern Grammar School was the new title for the Northern Secondary Schools, the entrance to Mayfield School still has the old title "Northern Secondary Schools" above it, carved in stone! (with the Secondary deleted). If there is a plaque to this effect in the City of Portsmouth Boys School, it must either commememorate a separate period of James Callaghan's education, or be erroneous. It is interesting as the normal misattribution of Callaghan (and other Northern Grammar School old boys) is to Portsmouth Grammar School; this is the first time I have ever heard him misattributed to CPBS. I will raise the subject of the plaque with the CPBS directly. Hyperman 42 03:06, 26 September 2006(UTC)

Quick followup note - there is a plaque commemorating JC's attendance at Northern Secondary on the wall of the Kingston Institute (later Radio Victory, now Portsmouth Housing Association), which was the school's location 1921-32. Hyperman 42 22:55, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

For information, this discussion was resolved with LordHarris shortly afterwards by mutual agreement. The plaque at CPBS commemorated Callaghan opening a new wing of the school but did not state that he attended it. Hyperman 42 (talk) 19:59, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

MERGE

I am against the proposed merge of articles suggested it would cause a loss of information in many cases and an overloading of the main page. Notably a similar set of proposals was made by an anonymous user to disrupt the Portsmouth page and those of its schools information is here and also here -- Drappel 21:08, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Tidy Up

I'm an ex pupil from Sept 74 - July 79.

James Callaghan was reported as an old boy and wrote the forward to the yearbook in one of the years I attended.

I've made some grammatical and spelling tidy ups. The famous pupils list is now in list format, and I removed one entry from the list who has no wiki article - one or two newspaper references and a professorship do not confer "fame".

I've also moved the Callaghan discussion that was appearing above the contents list on this talk page into a separate section.
