Orphaned references in Maynard James Keenan discography

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Maynard James Keenan discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "RIAA":

  • From List of music recording sales certifications: "RIAA - Recording Industry Association of America". Recording Industry Association of America. Retrieved 2008-05-26.
  • From Deftones: "RIAA Gold and Platinum searchable database". Search for artist "Deftones". RIAA. Retrieved 2007-09-01.
  • From AMotion: Gold & Platinum Certifications. Recording Industry Association of America. Retrieved on 2008-09-19.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 20:41, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I fixed this already. لennavecia 22:44, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ubiquitous date formatting discussion

edit

We currently have a mix of date formatting, particularly noticeable in the accessdates. Options: follow convention in the MJK article, follow convention in related recently-promoted featured lists i.e. Bruce Dickinson discography (note to Jenna: Tool discography has a mix of styles and of datelinking), follow what the (protected-from-editing-due-to-prolonged-warring) MOS:DATE has to say on the issue (does this topic have "strong national ties" to the US?). Personally, I favour "Month Day, Year" throughout but think consistency with the related articles is more important (which would encourage Year-Month-Day in the references at least). Please note that anyone replying to this comment will be assumed to have no life. Cheers, Skomorokh 15:27, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have a life! ... >_> Really. Uhm, I just raised this question on Talk:Tool (band) today, actually. I prefer "Month Day, Year" throughout as well, including for references, as I think ISO formatting is ghastly. Certainly welcome more opinions on the matter. For whatever consensus is reached, I have a handy tool to quickly fix this. لennavecia 22:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Excellent, I suggest we not welcome more opinions, in case they conflict with ours, and instead go right ahead and convert all the dates to "Month Day, Year" before anyone notices. Skomorokh 21:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hahaha. Well, I don't think anyone objected to my suggestion of the same on Tool (band), so I'll do that one first and then come to this one. If there are objections later, it can always be changed again, I think... something about that anyone can edit thingy. لennavecia 05:14, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Done. لennavecia 17:55, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Great, looks like you got them all. Want to run the script on Tool discography while you're at it? Skomorokh 17:58, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Not a script, just an editing tool to break the refs out of the body, but yea, I just did MJK, Tool (band) and this discog. I'll do Tool's discog now. لennavecia 18:07, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Had a quick look through all four articles and they should be all consistent. Skomorokh 00:59, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreleased songs

edit

Do these belong in an artist discography? No disc no deal vs. comprehensiveness. Skomorokh 15:28, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Good question. Perhaps they could instead be worked into the bio if they are sourced and relevant? لennavecia 21:59, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I agree. The only sourced one was Layne Stanley (sp?), and MJK's relationship with him can be better treated in the bio. Skomorokh 21:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

RATM collaboration

edit

I'm 90% sure this is a bona fide MJK/Rage Against the Machine live collaboration that was never released (supposedly intended for the Judgement Night soundtrack). Semi-authoritative lyrics. I can't find a ref for it, but should it not be listed on one of those obsessive-to-the-point-of-meeting-WP:RS Tool fan sites? Skomorokh 15:46, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It should be on toolshed.down.net, but I'm like 99% sure it's legit, just because I've seen it mentioned in so many random fan pages. Of course, I guess it only takes one to see it spread to so many others. لennavecia 04:33, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok, from http://tooldiscography.com/ (which toolshed.down.net directs the viewer to):

Judgment Night / (Kill the) Revolution In mid-1998, someone managed to procure (allegedly from Sony Music) a copy of an unreleased Tool / Rage Against the Machine collaboration recorded as a demo in 1993. It is said that both bands participated (excluding Adam Jones). It is widely believed that the song was recorded for anticipated inclusion on the soundtrack for the movie, Judgment Night. The song's real title is unknown. It was never released. Versions available are demo quality.

If the ref is reliable, this is emphatic enough to use I think. Skomorokh 21:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. If it's only an unreleased demo, is it worth mention at all? لennavecia 05:16, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, I agree with limiting the discography to released music. Skomorokh 21:36, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Weak and Powerless"/ The Invisible OST

edit

Was the A Perfect Circle song "Weak and Powerless" on the soundtrack of The Invisible? Imdb says yes, Allmusic appears to disagree. Anyone know if this is worth pursuing? Skomorokh 15:57, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm leaning toward no. لennavecia 21:58, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
That encourages reasonable doubt, at least. Skomorokh 21:44, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced collaborations

edit

This is a bit frustrating. "Choked" has had to be removed for lack of RS, which I'm not protesting in the least. Don't get me wrong. It's just frustrating because a simple Google search leads one to the obvious conclusion that it exists. The same for "Muhammad My Friend". I hate to remove this because I cannot find a RS when I can Google it and get a video showing Maynard performing the song with Tori Amos. It just seems silly. لennavecia 21:29, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The way I see it this article can go one of two ways, verifiable or comprehensive. We can restore all the plausible collaborations, thus providing the reader with the information they are looking for, or we can try to source it rigourously so that there is little chance of misattributing songs. If WP:FLC is the goal, the former is not an option. Skomorokh 21:34, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I for one believe in including as much comprehensive information as possible, while making clear when a source might be considered questionable. Having "according to ..." followed by a statement shows that the statement is only to be considered a fact IF you trust the source. Whether a source is trustworthy or not is subjective, so let the reader decide. sloth_monkey (talk) 06:38, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tapeworm

edit

Why is there no mention of project Tapeworm where Maynard collaborated with Trent Reznor of NIN and others? I would think it certainly deserves some kind of acknowledgment here, even if the full blown band never came to be. They collaborated on music and then Maynard released a song from this collaboration, therefore it should be included in this list of work done by Maynard. sloth_monkey (talk) 06:38, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

We need some reliable sources for it, but it can surely be added. Even with a lack of official releases, we could put it in with the collaborations. Would also probably want to squeeze it in his bio somewhere, depending on the info. Lara 21:18, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Eat the Elephant

edit

At some point, Eat the Elephant needs to be added to the Perfect Circle section. I'll work on it when I'm not busy unless someone beats me to it. Shaneymike (talk) 03:41, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
