Talk:Mayors in England

"There are currently no elected mayors in any cities whose mayor has the right to bear the title Lord Mayor, but if this were to arise, it may be the elected mayor would inherit that title."

Anyone know how they distinguish between the "Lord Mayor of London" (referring only to The City) and the "Mayor of London"? Timrollpickering 11:07, 16 May 2004 (UTC)Reply

Mayor of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough

edit

Our Mayor is styled "The Right Worshipful", yet we are not a city or a cinque port... what's going on? Is the article wrong or are just special?!?

The Right Worshipful The Mayor of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough

What's going on is that your Mayor is a very naughty chappie. Proteus (Talk) 23:16, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Not really - we've been calling our Mayors "Right Worshipful" since at least the 1960s - I've seen a plaque with the style of "Right Worshipful" on from this period. I think it must have to do with the fact that the Borough was one of the historic Corporations (the only one remaining being the City of London) before it was made a modern day borough. Whatever, it's right - I think someone needs to investigate Shrewsbury and Atcham Boroughß and also change this Mayors in the United Kingdom article if neccersary!

ßI've already made this wiki page rather vast for what is only a small borough in the shires of England!! But hey, it's my locale..... ;)

Well, if there is a valid reason for him to claim that style, then it's a reason unknown to Debrett's. Perhaps we could write to your council and ask. Proteus (Talk) 23:36, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Write them an email - they normally reply to all of mine (I write to them asking about stuff quite often, but never an issue like this). You'll find the right address on their website.

Good luck! Should be interesting to hear...

Nick Bye, Torbay, is not the first Conservative Elected Mayor in the Country. North Tyneside have elected two Conservative candidates since 2002, although it is currently held by John Harrison for Labour.

What about Lancaster?

Doesn't Lancaster have special status, as the capital of the royal duchy? Hasbro 08:41, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
