Not enough of a topic
editI think this article would be better if it was about the building, not just the institute, with more detail about other occupants. In particular, the Stearns Academy was probably more influential than the Appleton/McCollom schools. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 12:39, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
DavidWBrooks, I should say the school is definitely notable in its own right, as indeed most high schools are, according to the guidelines of Wikiproject Schools. Which would mean that the Stearns Academy could also merit a page, and that would also need to cover the wider area the later school occupied. I don't think an article on one notable topic should be diverted onto another. If the building is also notable in its own right, there would be nothing to get in the way of a McCollom Building page. That could not include anything about the early years of the Appleton Academy, which began in a different building. Hundreds of notable schools have occupied notable buildings, and there can be an article for both, if someone has the time to write them and there are reliable sources. - Almost all hits for "Stearns Academy" are in other towns, only one for Mont Vernon, but quite a few for Stearns School, including this booklet which has that title. We could try starting a Stearns School article if you like? Moonraker (talk) 19:37, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
McCollom Building
editI have created the McCollom Building article, as I threatened to do previously, using some material from this article as well as more details about the Stearns School. I think that creates the best context for the material. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 18:05, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
