Is it known if the two seats were side by side or tandem? Please add to text. LessHeard vanU 13:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
They were side-by-side. I watched test flights of these rascals when I was a kid - we lived right next to the airport, and my mom worked in a different McCulloch plant, neighbor to the J-2 plant. (My dad used rejected/broken windscreen plexiglass to replace the windows in our pickup camper. :) ) I don't know if it's unique in the gyrocopter world (my memory says it is, or was), but the J-2 had a clutch mechanism to spin up the main rotor, actuated by a lever up and to the right and rear of the pilot's head. They could make those things jump a couple of feet straight up.

I owned and flew one for many years. I have updated the content to provide much more detail and to correct some minor errors in the numbers (e.g., service ceiling and horsepower previously shown are greater than those in the aircraft manual, so I revised them). - Thanks for your input Jonwithnoh, is it possible to provide sources or citations for your information as a lot of it appears to be Original Research and could be removed in the future if it does not have references. Thank you. MilborneOne (talk) 11:53, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I've added a reference to the factory promotional document, "The J-2 Gyroplane and how to fly it", which confirms almost all of my edits. I'll locate my flight manual/operating handbook (doc. J-2-100) and provide a proper cite to it as well.Jonwithnoh (talk) 16:08, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
