editWhere is the name coming from ?Hektor 14:39, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Quoted from article: "is named after Calgary residents Frank McMahon and George McMahon who donated C$300,000 toward the construction of the facility."
Capacity
editI had thought with temporary seats the capacity is 44,000, like it says on most articles however someone has been editing saying it is 54,000. If it really is, please state a reliable source. sportyguy03 19:16, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Riders' 2nd home
editRealCommodity 07:56, 9 June 2007 (UTC)it is an interesting piece of trivia, and probably unique throughout the world, that a hometown crowd at a proffesional sports venue is commonly drowned out by fans of the visiting team, and I feel it deserves mention on the article for McMahon Stadium.RealCommodity 07:56, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- The comment is completely unsourced, and blatantly POV. Certantly there are a lot of Saskatchewan transplants in both Calgary and Edmonton that make for very large cheering sections when the Riders visit these two cities, however the simple fact is, Stampeder fans are not commonly drowned out, and large opposing fanbases are in no way, shape or form unique to the sporting world. One only has to look at what happens whenever the Leafs head west, or watch a major European soccer tournament. Wikipedia has no place of POV fan speculation. Resolute 18:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
RealCommodity 22:53, 9 June 2007 (UTC)but they ARE commonly drowned out, and The Maple Leafs, while attracting a large fanbase throughout most of Canada, they do not constantly drown out the home crowd in Calgary or Edmonton. In the ten games I have been to beetween the Riders and the Stampeders at McMahon Stadium, I only once (during the fourth quarter of a game the riders were losing horribly) noticed rider fans not representing a clear majority of the crowd. Any player who has ever worn a green jersey into McMahon Stadium will tell you that it is just like playing at Taylor Field.
- Having been to many more than ten Calgary-Saskatchewan games, I can tell you that you are letting your bias get the better of you. Regardless, you can't simply put aside WP:POV and WP:RS. Resolute 22:55, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
RealCommodity 23:01, 9 June 2007 (UTC)ok, so if I found a variety of reliable Quotes from Players, coaches, fans, and media personell talking about how McMahon Stadium becomes a second Taylor Field wenever the Riders are in town, would it be more appropriate to put it on the Saskatchewan Roughriders article, The Calgary Stampeders article, or The McMahon Stadium article.RealCommodity 23:01, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Roughriders article would be the best fit. There is obviously a lot of support for the Riders in Alberta and to a lesser extent, Winnipeg. Describing this, and why, would fit best on the Riders article. Resolute 23:09, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Concessions:
editYou did a good job of giving a general overview of the history of McMahon Stadium. I feel that you left out an important part of the experience, the food, though. For the longest time, the food was prepped and sold by a company named Chuck Wagon Catering. Only in the last few years has the Flames Organization taken over that part of the business.
