Anglicized Spelling
editThe title of this article should probably be changed to Messkirch within the English Wikipedia, as the eszett (ß) isn't part of the Latin alphabet. (All too many English readers will think it's a "B".) See Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Foreign terms. --RevWaldo 21:24, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Meßkirch → Messkirch –
This article was originally titled “Messkirch”. It was moved without explanation or discussion a while ago to the current title. As the original title was in standard English spelling, and conformed to guidelines on title and using English, while the current one does not, I am seeking to have this moved back to its original title.
I am doing this via WP:RM as it cannot be carried out conventionally, and requires admin assistance to do so. Moonraker12 (talk) 13:21, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support. I get 257 post-1990 English-language Google Book hits for "Messkirch" town, 35 for "Meßkirch" town. Kauffner (talk) 16:44, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- Well, the correct name of the town is Meßkirch! German-language Google Book hits ~5670 (total Google hits ~779000) for Meßkirch Stadt and ~2280 (total Google hits ~527000 for Messkirch Stadt. --KMJagger (talk) 21:06, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- It may be the correct name in German, but it is incorrect in English. So the correct thing to do, according to any number of guidelines here, is put the title correctly in English, with the name in German format in the opening sentence (something like "Messkirch (German orthography Meßkirch) is...") - Support. WP:UCN, WP:UE, etc. It's English-language sources that are relevant, not German ones, and the English ones predominantly use "ss". Jenks24 (talk) 15:39, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
