??? and ??? a couture house?
edit- "the third costume change of the evening, following dresses by designers ??? and ???"
I presume this isn't a couture house I've never heard of? Can we just say "...of the evening," and leave it at that? -- Zanimum (talk) 13:04, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Argh, that was my fault. I'd seen the designers of the other two outfits listed in one of the references used for the article and when I wrote that I line I intended to go back to the other source and add them - however as you can tell, I got distracted and forgot. Miyagawa (talk) 14:30, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, I'm sure I've posted stuff like that in articles a couple dozen times before. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:20, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Discussion for all
editDoes this...dress...really warrant its own article? It might have received heavy media attention, but come on. I find this a bit absurd. Also, if kept, I think it should be moved to "Lady Gaga's meat dress".--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 15:51, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
- There are other articles about dresses that follow this exact format and have won accolades like DYK. This article does pass WP:GNG. I feel it has a proper place. (P.S, when I said "exact format", I even meant the title.) I Help, When I Can. [12] 17:48, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that "Lady Gaga's meat dress" sounds better, unless "Meat dress of Lady Gaga" is a title of an artwork. Are there other examples of other iconic dresses which have their own articles? What title format do they use? I don't think "Curtain dress of Vivien Leigh" sounds right.Chellspecker (talk) 04:00, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Removed image
editI had previously used a non-free image under fair use claim on the article. However, today it was put up for PROD under the criteria "Commercial shot from a press agency. Fails NFCC#2.". I hadn't realised that a press agency would automatically fail NFCC#2, but apparently I'm wrong - so removed the image from the article and will speedy delete the image shortly. Miyagawa (talk) 21:57, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- If a free image is not possible, you really need to find an image with less by way of commercial value. Has someone released one as a publicity photo? Gaga's people? The ceremony's people? The dressmaker? J Milburn (talk) 23:41, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Miya, Flickr has some free pictures of people improvising the meat dress, and women dressed identical to her. May be we can use them? — Legolas (talk2me) 04:02, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- The problem there is that it's not an appropriate equivalent. What was notable about this was that it was Lady Gaga wearing a dress made of raw meat, not a random Flickr user wearing a dress made of raw meat.

- And J Milburn, MTV (who hosted the awards show) have released this image (and others). –Chase (talk / contribs) 01:27, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
I've added the image from the above link at a reduced size. Miyagawa (talk) 21:29, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Confusing Section Headings, Repetition of Information
editI find the section headings in this article confusing. There is a lot of information about the dress, including some repetition. The sections Design, Reception and Influence fail to organize the content. They are used so interchangeably as to render them unnecessary. Chellspecker (talk) 04:18, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- I would welcome any suggestion as to how to make it better. — Legolas (talk2me) 09:09, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
- I've moved about a couple of paragraphs that I felt would fit better in other sections. Miyagawa (talk) 10:45, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Title
editThe title of this article is rather awkward. I think that "Meat dress (Lady Gaga)" would be better. Anyone else have an opinion on this? Tad Lincoln (talk) 05:38, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
- This is the standard naming convention. See Category:Individual dresses. —Andrewstalk 07:29, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Meat dress preservation
editThis article speculates on how the meat dress was preserved at the hall of fame. Might be of interest to someone here.

- The "All Rights Reserved" under License is a big fat no to that question. — raekyt 02:49, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- As an aside, they look like press photos "borrowed" by the Flickr users anyway. J Milburn (talk) 10:11, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Infobox picture
editi get what users were thinking when they set the main picture as one of the BTWBall dress, but shouldn't it be of the original version?the one from the vmas?since that seems to be the one people think about when its brought up? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.190.44.70 (talk) 20:35, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
GA de-listing
editI feel that this article no longer meets the Good Article criteria. I'm going to try and rescue it, but if not, it should be de-listed, I think. Especially since it's unstable, routinely contains illegally licensed images (which are also reverted), and the sources are not uniformly formatted. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 04:14, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ran the article through reflinks and checklinks, fixing various bare URLs and flagging dead links. At present, there are at least three dead links that need to be replaced. There is also the issue of the image. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 04:35, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- The few dead links can be updated or removed pretty easily; it's nothing to delist the article over. And the current infobox image meets NFCC criteria, so I don't know what the "issue" is. –Chase (talk / contribs) 00:01, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Should this page include a reference to Canadian Artist Jana Sterbak?
editThe original meat dress by Jana Sterbak is clearly a source of inspiration for Gaga's or is notable at the very least. I'm new to Wikipedia so I don't want to edit it myself, but I feel that this article could include a short reference to Sterbak's similar work from 1987. ViterbiAlg (talk) 20:34, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hi ViterbiAlg, and Welcome to Wikipedia! Feel free to edit the article yourself; don't worry about "messing it up", because edits can be undone very easily. However, note that information must be cited by reliable sources. Also, Sterbak's dress is already mentioned in the 'Reception' section ("Many in the art and fashion press remarked on its similarity to Vanitas: Flesh Dress for an Albino Anorectic, a meat dress made by Canadian sculptor Jana Sterbak in 1987"); is there something you wish to add to this? Adabow (talk) 21:08, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you, somehow I missed this. I rescind my request.ViterbiAlg (talk) 01:59, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
It's Fatty Boom Boom's dress too
editThe exact dress is I guess a reference in the "Fatty Boom Boom" video of those South African couple of zefs or rappers..or whatever - Die Antwoord. It's basically what the main character of their video is dressed in before gets eaten by a lion. Whoever has the time to add to this article can mention it somewhere as general information related to it like 'in other media' or something. Just sayin — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.97.235.43 (talk) 00:46, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
Lady Gaga's Meat Dress should also make reference to Carolee Schneemann's Meat Joy
editLady Gaga's page on her Meat Dress should definitely refer to Carolee Schneemann's performance art piece which was called Meat Joy and which she performed in 1964!
Here is a summary of this piece:
"Her most celebrated work, Meat Joy, was first performed at the Festival of Free Expression in Paris in 1964. Its shopping list of ingredients – “raw fish, chickens, sausages, wet paint, plastic, rope and shredded scrap paper” – suggested an orgy of cooking or craft. The work, which culminated in a group of participants writhing in paint and raw meat, was comic, unsettling and sexy all at once – driving an audience member so wild that he tried to strangle Schneemann halfway through. Public reactions, even now, are rarely neutral. “This is a revolting, excessive, vulgar thing,” reads a comment beneath a YouTube clip of a performance, “and I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!”
This is from an article in The Guardian dated Dec 15, 2015
Thank you.
- As the meat was writhed in, rather than fashioned into an outfit, it's not really relevant here. 81.154.100.51 (talk) 08:44, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
Inspirations section
editI've been bold and edited the section about the possible inspirations for the dress. As none has been definitively proved to be an inspiration, it seemed sensible to order them chronologically. It read rather confusingly before, jumping about in time. 81.154.100.51 (talk) 08:46, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
