Equivalence

edit

I'm not sure about the validity of the statement “1 megabit equaled 128 kibibyte; 8 megabits were 1 mebibyte.” I understand it as “1 Mb = 128 KiB; 8 Mb = 1 MiB.” However, it doesn't add up:

  • 1 Mb = 1000000 b = 125000 B = 125 kB
  • 128 KiB = 131072 B > 1 Mb
  • 8 Mb = 8000000 b = 1000000 B = 1 MB
  • 1 MiB = 1048576 B > 8 Mb

Could somebody with a better understanding clarify this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by OlivierMehani (talkcontribs) 05:45, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's pretty clear that this is meant in the context of binary use of SI prefixes as discussed there. You have to read the entire paragraph. Kbrose (talk) 06:59, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
