Electronica?

edit

Considering that the album is almost entirely a cappella (though some of the voices have been electronically processed), is it accurate to classify it into the genre electronica? --Arteitle 01:13, Sep 8, 2004 (UTC)

perhaps just "pop" or "alternative music"???... although it's really not strictly either. they should just invent a "björk music" category ;)

I have 2 questions of my own- 1) why is "Who is it?" a link? and 2) is the track order correct here? on my CD tracks 7 - 10 are in a different order than what's here... swidly 01:33, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC)

For classification, I would put it in "World beat". It's a very nice album even though my wife couldn't stomach it. Oh well. I like it a lot. Christopher Mahan (too lazy to log in just now)

Alright. I'm having troubles with the genre classification of this album. I wouldn't classify it in electronica, or worldbeat. this is very annoying. The "definition" of worldbeat is the fusion of folk music with other modern influences. I don't think that... well you know what I mean. no folk music is fused... I think it would do the album more justice to make the genre ???. or something. --ppk80

She fuses icelandic folk music with modern influences.

i would classify this album as electronica, most of the vocals have been overdubbed or altered in some way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.0.51.198 (talk) 19:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Move

edit

I put up a move request to move this to Medúlla. No need for the (album) part when Medúlla redirects to this. gren グレン 05:45, 31 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

"Sonnets/unrealities XI" instrumentation

edit

I think this song has a synthesizer, or at least something that is not a human voice.

Medúlla not Spanish

edit

A very small side note: the correcct Spanish spelling would be médula, with a single L and stressed on the first syllable. So I believe Medúlla must be some other language. - Sergi —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.39.43.179 (talk) 20:05, 12 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Medulla.jpg

edit

Image:Medulla.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Track listing

edit

There is a potential for confusion in having the setlist of some tangentially related concert listed before the actual track listing of the album. Most important comes first, I say. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.124.141.221 (talk) 09:54, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Entertainment Weekly

edit

I just thought I'd mention that Entertainment Weekly gave this album an A along with a pretty glowing review, found here: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,692264,00.html I'm not sure if you consider EW articles when writing Bjork's articles on here, but I just thought I'd mention it in case someone wanted to add it. - July 28, 2011

The accent on the u

edit

Björk comments in an interview that the accent on the u in medulla was intended to make the word cuter with a pun on the Icelandic word dúlla.[1] Haukur (talk) 22:12, 26 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Style

edit
  • Lead good length for article
  • Some odd/unnatural phrasings from the start, e.g. in the first note using "if to count" and "counting in", where both should be 'if counting'
  • "a cappella constructed with human vocals" is redundant
  • Wikilinking rock music is not needed
  • Could wikilink the specific wiktionary "medulla" page
  • If using quotes in the lead, need refs
  • The order and contents of the list being Wallonia, Europe, France is bizarre. Wallonia is part of a country that is part of Europe, France is a country in Europe, and Europe is... Europe. Perhaps include the specific charts.
  • In the sentence "She then elaborated that it was "very introverted" and avoided eye contact", did Bjork avoid eye contact or did she claim that the album avoids eye contact?
  • " since her teenager age" should be "since she was a teenager"
  • Background and production section largely reads like storytelling, so this section needs rewriting
  • Ditto for the Artwork and title section
  • Having a read through the rest of the article, the issues with storytelling and non-English phrasing persist, so it is clear the whole thing likely needs reworking
  • Fail

Coverage

edit
  • Each section seems a suitable length compared to other album good articles
  • mentioning that the singles, both of which have their own pages, were "both charting inside the top forty in the United Kingdom and the top ten in Spain" doesn't need to be included, especially being single countries/charts and not that high
  • Fair

Neutrality

edit
  • Seems good
  • Pass

Verifiability

edit
  • Sources seem good
  • Everything cited in-line (but see Copyright below)
  • Pass

Illustration

edit
  • Quotebox in Background and production too long for purpose
  • Uses album artwork in infobox
  • Good use of free dress image, song clip, and the music-related tables
  • Quotebox in Style & influences good size
  • One issue

Stability

edit
  • History looks fine
  • Pass
edit
  • Looks like some copyvio (not the blockquote, but text around it) from style.com (large parts of "had a solo show at ATM Gallery, where she showed a wall mural made of brown braids. Björk appreciated it, and then invited her to work on creating a hair sculpture to support her idea for the Medúllas character. She also explained that because the album was entirely recorded with voices, Björk did not want to wear clothes but more things that were made of something from the body" and "a room to each album of Björk's career, with the Medulla section having a mannequin in the likeness of Björk wearing the Alexander McQueen–designed bell dress she wore in the video for her song "Who Is It"")
  • Also from IGN
  • And Calver's book
  • And most of the sources, actually.
  • Fail like, hard fail. I checked seven sources all the way through, only two didn't appear to be plagiarized.

Copyedits & rewording

edit

Given Björk's first four solo studio albums have gotten to GA status, it would only make sense to continue with Medúlla. Thus, here are some copyedits and rewording to improve the article:

  • "Björk intended to make an album almost entirely a cappella constructed with human vocals" - Redundant, as stated in the 2019 GA Review, so I propose linking the "constructed with human vocals" part to the a cappella article itself. Edit - I went ahead and did this one given it's probably the least controversial.
  • "American R&B singer Beyoncé" - Though her debut solo album is overall primarily R&B, many of her songs around this time additionally mixed in pop and hip hop, so limiting her to one genre seems unnecessary, especially as it may be unclear to some readers whether this refers to her then (which was still not entirely R&B) or now (multi-genre) and the fact that she's likely well-known enough to simply be referred to as a "singer." Edit - Also done.
  • "In an interview with The New Yorker, she explained that she wanted to get away from the world of instruments and electronics, which was present on her previous album, Vespertine (2001). She then elaborated that it was "very introverted" and avoided eye contact." → "In an interview with The New Yorker, she explained that she wanted to get away from the world of instruments and electronics present on her previous album, Vespertine (2001), and remarked that the project was "very introverted" and avoided eye contact." - Less clunky, and further elaborates she's not talking about her post-Vespertine project. Edit - Done.
  • Reviews without the accented "ú" possibly need changing, although I can't immediately find a reference point to whether it needs brackets around Medúlla for reviews that don't use the diacritic. Edit - Done.

Any further thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Isthmus55 (talk) 16:48, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
