REDIRECT
editI am strongly in favor of redirecting this article to Medical specialist as it was before, as they cover virtually the same topic. I'd like to know the rationale for making them seperate.--Grendlefuzz 02:12, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Merging
editSee discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Medicine#Merge_of_Medical_speciality.2C_Medical_specialist.2C_Physician_specialty_codes_and_Surgical_specialties Mikael Häggström (talk) 17:46, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
The prior discussion is now archived at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine/Archive 5#Merge of Medical speciality.2C Medical specialist.2C Physician specialty codes and Surgical specialties.
I would still like to see Surgical specialties merged with this article. Currently, the table in this article includes both surgical and medical specialties, which is nice for completeness and comparison. The current title implies medicine-only (non-surgical) specialties. Therefore, I propose renaming this article to "Specialty (medicine)." With this change, both medical and surgical specialties would fit under the one title and the articles can be merged. This new title would more accurately represent how "specialty" is used within the medical field. The formatting of the title is consistent with other related articles (i.e. Fellowship (medicine), Internship (medicine), Residency (medicine), Board certification (medicine)). --Scott Alter 00:34, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Citation 3
editis non-English. As this is the English article, could we find either a translation of this file or a replacement source? I've been unable to find backup for some of the assertions (anesthesiology as a surgical specialty, for example) elsewhere. CrashCart9 (talk) 03:55, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- The source is a description of the different medical specialties in Sweden. And while anesthesiology (or to be exact, "anesthesiology and intensive care") is indeed a surgical specialty in Sweden, I'm not certain how relevant or representative our division of medical specialties are from a global point of view. --kissekatt (talk) 09:25, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Salary and Source
editMaybe I am missing something but the source] does not match up to the salary. The source, apparently, is base salary and doesn't include bonuses. I don't know if they added them and how. --ProdigySportsman (talk) 14:43, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Diagnostic vs therapeutic specialties
editWhat is the definition of a therapeutic speciality, haha...? They don't get to diagnose diseases also? It's a silly column, it should be removed.
- Since the spelling in the table is British the column may refer to the practice in Britain of General practice doctors seeing most patients initially, and then referring those who need specialist treatment for further therapy. The American model of practicing medicine, for example, works differently. StarryGrandma (talk) 19:21, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
