Talk:MeeGo
This article is rated C-class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale. It is of interest to the following WikiProjects: | |||||||||||||||||||||

Is it, or was it, an OS?
editArticle begins with "MeeGo is a Linux-based" and accroding to next chapter, "MeeGo was canceled in September 2011, in favor of Tizen" which refers to link https://meego.com/community/blogs/imad/2011/whats-next-meego . Maybe beginning of article should be changed to "MeeGo was a Linux-based", since then beginning would reflect projects official state? And it would be in-line with other Wikipedia articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.156.74.181 (talk) 14:08, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Reference?
editcan't read the no [3] reference article, only first paragraph available! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.86.97.27 (talk) 00:07, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
RPM source
editSource on RPM being the package manager? 209.239.13.226 (talk) 14:08, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Reference to Linux Foundation
editMeeGo is actually a Linux Foundation project, so the Linux Foundation should be referenced along with Intel / Nokia. I'm the community manager for the project, so I'll leave it to someone more neutral to make the updates on Wikipedia. Fosterda (talk) 16:39, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Linux Foundation is mentioned in the first paragraph for "hosting" the MeeGo project. I think this is good enough. Since from the Linux Foundation project page the main effort of LF is to host the project but not much else. I knew they are also working on compliance but there's no reliable source for that effort. Please help to provide more on the compliance topic. Also please correct me if I were wrong. Elliot Li (talk) 12:02, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Disambiguation
editCan someone please add a disambiguation to the article, preferably (Operating System) to be consistent with other articles.--118.92.152.19 (talk) 00:14, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Do it yourself. This is a wiki. --KAMiKAZOW (talk) 03:31, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Licensing
editMuch more info is needed. We all know how "open" software on mobile phones tends to be. And there are something like 2 million "open source" licenses, some of which really aren't. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.76.65.129 (talk) 05:38, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have drafted a license section, welcome comments. Elliot Li (talk) 12:40, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Maemo/Hildon compatibility
editThe article should mention the fact that users must install a community ported library to use the hundreds of Hildon based Maemo applications. The sentence was removed by User:Cameron_Scott on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MeeGo&oldid=379546949--Efa (talk) 10:05, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
What reliable sources discuss this? --Cameron Scott (talk) 10:07, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Legend missing
editThe versions table has three colors, but I doesn't have any legend explaining what each means. Such as:
Legend for below table: [under development] — [retired or canceled] — [operational or available]
Intel's motivation for MeeGo
editReference #4, which cites a sole source (an Intel evangelist), is a very poor source for that claim that Intel joined MeeGo because of the lack of support for their Atom chip. There are several problems with the referenced article: "He says it's taken too long for the software giant to make Windows run well on Atom and to make a success of Intel's UMPC and MID ideas." As a former Microsoft employee I know that Microsoft bent over backwards to reduce Windows 7's resource usage, the point where it was significantly better on Atom than Vista, despite all the features added to the OS. The gist of the original interviewee's message was that Intel wants to see Atom in "smartphones, MIDs, tablets and in-car systems, for a start", which completely ignores the fact that Microsoft has several operating systems for smaller and embedded environments (including Windows CE and Windows Embedded), all of which run extremely well on Atom and even smaller processors. So the article is disingenuous to begin with; to make a claim that it's the reason that Intel created or joined the MeeGo effort compounds the error. A better/more accurate source needs to be found to describe Intel's motivations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.233.52.215 (talk) 03:15, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Companies supporting project
editI've noticed that the list of supporting companies isn't that useful in its current state and was planning on replacing it with a chart that would contain information such as what the company does for the project. Are there any suggestions for other categories? (Thatch0403 (talk) 15:53, 7 June 2011 (UTC)) This is for consideration, I think this would be realy helpful. Please let me know if you have any suggestions
