I'll review this one - it should be done within a day or two.--AlexandraIDV 04:03, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Infobox
edit- We don't list emulated re-releases, like the anniversary collections, virtual console, etc, in infoboxes (and the PC collection is in any case not a North America exclusive as the infobox proclaims) - this should be removed.
- Some of the staff roles are unsourced and not mentioned outside of the infobox - please mention them in the development section, backed up with a source. Additionally, outside of the infobox the article never explicitly mentions that Kaji was the game's director, which should be amended.
- Not sure I can find some sources for these people. GamerPro64 03:48, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
- All right, I commented them out.--AlexandraIDV 08:31, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Lead
edit-
Upon its release, Capcom reached the franchise's tenth anniversary
feels like trivia - if there is no further context I would remove it from the lead.- Removed. GamerPro64 03:47, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- I would try to avoid having the development information in the lead spread out in different paragraphs with plot in the middle like it is right now, and collect it in one place.
- I think I worked it out. GamerPro64 03:47, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- Giving some context for who Mega Man is would be good - just something like "the humanoid robot Mega Man" upon the first mention would be enough.
- "mysterious" does not add much to the description of the energy reading and the alien robot, particularly the latter - as it is mentioned that Mega Man needs to discover the robot's purpose, it is already conveyed that there is mystery surrounding it.
- Removed. GamerPro64 03:47, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
-
Mega Man discovers that his nemesis Dr. Wily has beaten him there and immediately retreats with the energy source.
- I read this as meaning that MM retreats with the energy source, but the next sentence makes it seem like Wily has it. This should be made clearer.- Re-worked. GamerPro64 03:47, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
-
the game was a moderate commercial success and was re-released on best-seller lines in both Japan and North America.
- I would cut the word "both" as it makes it seem like those were the only places the game was released in
Plot
edit- It is standard for video game articles to have their gameplay section before the plot section unless the inverse improves reader understanding significantly.
- This summary is on the long side - 732 words currently - which exceeds the recommended max length in MOS:VG, particularly for a platformer, and should be trimmed down. A thing I see is that it often has a little too detailed retellings of specific moments, which can be streamlined a lot to cut down length.
- Trimmed the plot down a bit and will do a second pass on it later. GamerPro64 02:36, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Trimmed it down some more. GamerPro64 02:28, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- As in the lead, please mention that Mega Man is a humanoid robot (and also that Rush is a robot, not a normal dog)
- Briefly mention who Roll and Light are, as we write for a general audience and not just for Mega Man fans
- I think I got it. GamerPro64 03:57, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
-
the robotic hero
is cute writing, but I would definitely prefer straight-forward, clear language: "he" or "Mega Man"- Took your advice. GamerPro64 03:57, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- As this requires a bunch of trimming, I will wait with further notes on this section until that is done.
Gameplay
edit-
either in-game or while paused
- maybe I have a different definition of "in-game", but to me it is definitely still in-game even if it is in the pause menu. Something like "while playing or while the game is paused" might work. Or maybe the fact that you can do it both ways is trivial enough that it doesn't need to be mentioned.- I'll just remove it. GamerPro64 05:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
-
Enemies in each stage can be destroyed
- does "in each stage" add anything?- Removed. GamerPro64 05:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
-
to tackle in any order he or she chooses
- at first I was going to suggest singular they as smoother writing, but then I realized that you can just end the sentence after "in any order". -
A noteworthy addition to gameplay
- It is not our place to say that something is noteworthy to the reader, we can just make the note without commenting out it, so: change to "An addition" -
The player also has the ability to use his Mega Buster at all times,
- I'm assuming "his" refers back to Mega Man, but on first reading I interpreted it as referring to the player. Would recommend changing "his" to "the". -
Auto's part shop from the last game also appears in the form of Dr. Light's lab, where the player can buy new abilities from Roll in exchange for special bolts found throughout the levels.
- I have not played MM7 or MM8, so: is Auto still involved in the shop in this game? If not, I would just simplify it and say "The player can buy new abilities from Roll in Dr. Light's lab in exchange for [...]"- Done. Better this way. GamerPro64 05:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
-
Special power-ups involving Mega Man's dog Rush are won by fighting mid-stage minibosses.
- does "special" add anything?- No. Removed. GamerPro64 05:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- You cannot use a source from 1997 to say that this is the only game in the series where you can swim, when there have been further MM games released since - and I question whether that is important in the first place. I would suggest just naming swimming as one of the actions the player can perform earlier, in the part where you mention the running, jumping, etc.
- Re-worked the swimming mention in the section. GamerPro64 05:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Development
edit- Would suggest being clear and mentioning that the game was developed by Capcom very early in this section, probably as the very first sentence.
- There is a freely usable picture of Inafune on the article about him, that should be added here.
- Added it in. GamerPro64 02:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- I would add "the earlier" to
the 1996 arcade fighting game Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters
just to make the point come across more clearly. -
Kaji revealed that he initially designed Duo as
- we can cut out "revealed that he", it does not add anything and it is clear already that the information comes from the staff- Removed. GamerPro64 02:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- MOS:EASTEREGG: don't make the reader click "headwear" to find out what kind of hat it was.
-
Capcom received around 110,000 idea submissions from fans for the game
- unsure if you're saying "fans of the game" (not logical since the game was not yet available, and should then instead say fans of the series) or "submissions for the game" (already clear from context)- Simplified it. GamerPro64 02:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
-
Three of the Robot Masters (Sword Man, Clown Man, and Search Man) were even given base skeletons on which fans could add features.
- not super clear what this means- Not sure either. I don't think I have access to it's source. GamerPro64 02:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- I got hold of a copy of the book, and fixed it myself.--AlexandraIDV 09:04, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not sure either. I don't think I have access to it's source. GamerPro64 02:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
-
The Japanese version of the game features the J-pop vocal opening theme "Electrical Communication" and the ending theme "Brand New Way" by the group Ganasia.
- did they use another track in the international releases?- Doesn't look like it. GamerPro64 03:48, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
-
Capcom celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Mega Man franchise with the release of Mega Man 8.
- as in the lead, this feels trivial without further context. Does it mean anything beyond the anthology booklet that was mentioned earlier?- Removed it. GamerPro64 03:48, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
-
including action figures, gashapon toys, stationary, and furniture, vinyl record.
- you seem to be missing a word or two near the end of this.- Reworked them. GamerPro64 02:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
-
much later in 2007
- I would strike "much" as this is very subjective and relative.- Removed. GamerPro64 02:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
Reception and legacy
edit- Would avoid use of the word "universal", as an absolute that is unlikely to actually be universally true
- Don't use contractions like "hadn't"
- Done I think. GamerPro64 02:58, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Italicize names of works, like GameSpot and IGN
- There are a lot of long quotes used here - try to paraphrase them when possible.
External links
edit- Seems a little tenuous to link to a Japanese MM series website from 2012 - if there is no specific official website for MM8, I would just cut this out (or at the very least change it to the English MM site)
- Removed it. GamerPro64 02:48, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
Things I noticed that aren't part of the GA criteria
edit- Images do not have alt text - adding this would be very helpful for readers with impaired vision.
- If there is no specific credited author of a source, you don't need to write "IGN staff" etc - you can just leave the author field empty, as it is already understood that an article by IGN would've been written by IGN staff.
- The Capcom-Unity ref does not mention that it's from Capcom-Unity.
All right, I think that's all! I'll put this on hold for the customary seven days - ping me when you have addressed the above notes, or if you have any questions, and I'll return to you asap.--AlexandraIDV 23:26, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- Just want to say that since I can see you're actively working on it, don't worry about the seven-day period too much. I'm away all day today anyway and will only have limited access to Wikipedia until tonight.--AlexandraIDV 04:52, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- I kinda got curious and tried to fix the stuff IDV said. However, I can't find that Capcom Unity reference.Tintor2 (talk) 16:07, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- I went ahead and fixed that myself.--AlexandraIDV 00:17, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

- Thank you, I will look over this within the weekend (hopefully today).--AlexandraIDV 11:19, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
- @GamerPro64: I've checked the current version, and it looks good! I will go ahead and promote this to GA now~!--AlexandraIDV 04:35, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
