Shek Kip Mei fire
editAt that time, the Hong Kong government was tackling the serious squatter hut problem by constructing public housing estates for residents (especially those displaced by the Shek Kip Mei fire).
What was the connection of the resettlement of those who lost their home during the Sheck Kip Mei fire and the proposal of Mei Foo Sun Chuen??? The target was vastly different: Mei Foo Sun Chuen was going after middle-income-families who could afford to purchase their own homes. The government's public housing estates took care of lower-income families. Secondly, timing - the Shek Kip Mei fire happened in early 50s, the first batch of eight six-storey buildings of Shek Kip Mei Estate was completed by the end of 1954. (Historical Background of Shek Kip Mei Estate by Hong Kong Housing Authority) Development of Mei Foo Sun Chuen was initiated a decade later.---Now wiki (talk) 13:38, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
