Format

edit

The format of the line items in this page is unusual vs. most other person-with-surname list pages in that the names are presented in 'surname, forename' format rather than 'forename surname' format. Also, many line items had secondary wikilinks, which I have removed. Noting here for further discussion (and will note in Anthroponymy wikiproject). --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 12:42, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Seems like people should be <given name> <surname> like other pages, which would also be consistent with WP:APOS. Consider splitting it off to Meier (surname) also.—Bagumba (talk) 15:18, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Agree with both points. This is tagged as a surname page instead of a dab page. The intro line "may refer to:" and listing of entries that aren't surnames are appropriate for dab pages. I would split out the surname page, changing the tagging of this page to a dab page. Reformatting the surname entries makes sense, too. Coastside (talk) 16:24, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've seen some strangely-formatted DAB and name pages in my time, but this one may be the weirdest.
This isn't a surname page, it's a DAB page. Méier is a full title match, because most English-speaking users don't have diacritics on their keyboards. The <surname>, <given name> pipes violate MOS:DABPIPE. FWIW, they also violate WP:APOS.
Some languages, e.g. Russian, use <surname>, <given name> <patronymic> titles for biography pages. It's easy to follow, but it isn't the English standard.
I have no strong feelings on, but wouldn't disagree with, splitting the people out to Meier (surname).
Parenthetically, the entry about Hermann Goering looks like WP:OR, and bad OR at that. IMO his remark "If the British bomb Berlin, you can call me Meier (Mayer, Meyer)" wasn't a suggestion to call him a dairyman, but to call him by one of the most common Jewish surnames. (When the British did start bombing Berlin, German air raid sirens were ironically nicknamed "Meier's buglehorns".) That entry should go. Narky Blert (talk) 07:47, 17 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've gone ahead and split the people off to Meier (surname). Should function much better now. Highresheadphones (talk) 06:01, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
