Is this separate article necessary? No. BabuBhatt 16:40, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Wikisource?
editThis is just source material. If we want a seperate article here, shouldn't it be about the entire DUI incident, not just the apology? Friday (talk) 16:50, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
[1]: Wikipedia isn't a news echo. One event is on this page. If it fits into a context, then perhaps it should go into the article about Mel Gibson. In three years, this event will 'probably' be as trivial as NeoGeo issues from 1917. 216.234.170.79 17:25, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's just a temporary media frenzy, sure, but we have articles like this all the time. I guess I'd rather see this turned into an article on the entire incident than just go away. Might help calm things down over at the main article too. Friday (talk) 17:31, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I created it primarily to reduce that frenzy. Of course, the text itself really belongs in Wikiquote. Give it a week, then move it? --Uncle Ed 17:34, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- But surely an article on the entire incident is better all around? In fact, I'm not sure such an article should be temporary. People may think it's silly, but there's no denying this has gotten tons of media attention. Friday (talk) 17:40, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed, as discussed in talk:Mel Gibson. Want me to help with the merge/spinoff? Command me! --Uncle Ed 17:56, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Certainly, and the question of whether to merge back at a later date can IMO be decided at that later date. Do you have suggestions on the name of it? I made a suggestion below. Friday (talk) 17:58, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

A whole article for Mel?
editDozens of apologies have been made in the past by many politicians, including senators, representatives and even presidents. They don't have a seperate article, so why should this one actor get one? Incase people haven't noticed, Gibson acts for a living. So why should this "apology" count? We all know about his father.
- This one's a bit of a media frenzy. I know, we're not trying to be news, but.. I'll admit this is arguable, but I see no reason not to have an article on the whole debacle. If, later, it all seems like old news and a relatively minor footnote to Mel Gibson, it can be merged back. Friday (talk) 18:11, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Move
editAlright, sounds like people are agreeing this should be moved. I think Mel Gibson DUI incident might be a reasonable title, but does anyone else have ideas? Friday (talk) 17:43, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nope. Sounds good to me, so I 'spun off' the sub-topic, in accordance with Wikipedia:How to break up a page, aka "Summary style". --Uncle Ed 20:21, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nice! I turned this into a redirect, as it's already been stubbed and didn't seem relevant anymore now that we're covering the whole incident. Friday (talk) 21:00, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Wtf apology date
editHow could Mel have apolizgized on Aug 2 if its Aug 1 today? Superway25 17:46, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
