Talk:Melvyn Douglas
Cause of death?
editI removed this from the article as it is not sourced and I have been unable to find anything to confirm it: "Melvyn was among one of the first celebrities to die of AIDS. He contracted HIV in 1981." Clarityfiend 20:08, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Communist
editWas Douglas ever a member of the Communist Party? Can someone answer this without alluding to Nixon's "trickiness"?Lestrade (talk) 18:41, 5 December 2007 (UTC)Lestrade
She was not a Communist. She was a New Deal Democrat with progressive leanings in the Henry Wallace mold. Nixon did not call her a communist. What he said was that she was soft on communism, "pink right down to her underwear", with pink being suggestive not of communism per se but of those of the left too spiritually close to communism to fight the Cold War.
Who is "she"????? This entry is about Melvyn Douglas, not his wife. (24.62.126.170 (talk) 16:32, 25 July 2010 (UTC))
Wife's Alleged Affair with LBJ
editThis reference is correct. Robert Caro indeed claims an apparent if not confirmed relationship in his book "Master Of The Senate", saying the two were seen holding hands as they strolled to the U.S. Capitol on mornings during his last days in the House of Representatives(1945-59) and that friends of his wondered at the time if he might leave Lady Bird for her. Caro also says there was a period of unrest in the marriage with Melvyn because of this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.86.49.228 (talk) 08:51, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
LBJ was known to frequently hold hands with male and female friends and kiss people's hands. It was an odd affectation on his part, but hardly indicative of an "affair". (24.62.126.170 (talk) 16:36, 25 July 2010 (UTC))
High School Graduate
editThe Wiki for Upper Canada College lists him as having graduated in 1913. Can this be confirmed? Chris66 (talk) 16:48, 25 September 2009 (UTC) Chris66

children? the entry here implies that douglas had the one hesselberg child with his first wife, but the wiki article on illeana douglas implies that there were three children: "Douglas had two older brothers, the late Stefan Gregor Hesselberg,[4][7] a technician in the histology laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who also trained racehorses in Verona, Italy, and Erik Hesselberg, a journalist." which is it? chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.179.79.162 (talk) 18:44, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
