Please include a subsection of the sound engineers who were essential in the production of this record. The main recording engineers were Brian Garten and Chris 'TEK' O'Ryan and the main mixing engineers were Jaycen Joshua and Dave Pensado.Dalekarmy (talk) 20:58, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Chicago Sun-Times Review

Not only do I not believe this publication to be well-known or respected enough for the review to be listed, but the review itself is not about the music. "Jim DeRogatis" or whatever his name is spent the entire review writing a personal attack, and not a critical analysis of the album. Could we replace it?

The Associated Press Review

The AP just released a very favorable review of the album. The title of the article is "Carey's 'Imperfect Angel' is perfect." Here's the link: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gpU3MXdvTVy0YwiVZk6j-w-pB9kAD9B0FRD00

Record label is SONY

according to http://www.mariahcarey.com/music/?v=&a=1&id=23 the recordlabel is SONY and not ISLAND —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.57.242.67 (talk) 18:51, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

im afraid your mistaken. Mariah Carey is most definately part of Island Records which is owned by Universal Music which is in turn Sony Music's biggest rival. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 16:47, 26 September 2009 (UTC))

Music Video

When is the music video coming out??--Maester Seymour (talk) 02:56, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

July 13th,2009. This is according to the Mariah Daily Journal website. [[1]] :)--Freespirit1981 (talk) 19:38, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Release date

The reference announces the release of the album for September 18, so I changed it (because it was written 25 August). And if we look at the page [2] we can see that it's written September 18. So if there's another website who announces the release for August 25, we will have to wait for an official announcement. Let's not waste our times. - Clif (talk)

STOP ADDING SONGS

H.A.T.E.U. and Obsessed are the only confirmed songs. I Want To Know What Love Is was reported by a gossip column. Candy Bling and 100% —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.124.76.236 (talk) 05:09, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

WALTER AFANASIEFF

The Twitter account that is cited on the bottom is a fake. It is not really Walter. He should be removed from the list of producers. Mariah has never confirmed him as a producer whereas she has confirmed Timbaland, Jim Wright, and the others listed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moonlitsoup (talkcontribs) 22:35, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Confirmed Songs

I Want To Know What Love Is is not a confirmed song. The Impossible, however, is confirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.132.119 (talk) 20:05, 19 June 2009 (UTC) "Candy Bling" is also a confirmed song.

"Candy Bling" and "The Impossible"

Why isn't "Candy Bling," and "The Impossible" under "Confirmed Songs." They have been confirmed.67.80.139.45 (talk) 17:18, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Why haven't any of you provide a source that says those two songs are confrimed? MS (Talk|Contributions) 17:24, 7 July 2009 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.247.5.77 (talk) 11:51, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, but Mariah Daily is not a reliable source. Try again. And avoid writing in caps, it seems as if you are shouting and that won't get you anywhere. MS (Talk|Contributions) 12:02, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Well can you at least remove 'I Want to Know What Love Is' because that is not confirmed and '100 Percent' is going to be the 'Precious' theme song but not confirmed fot the album. PLEASE remove I Want To Know What Love Is. It is NOT confirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.247.5.77 (talk) 03:03, 12 July 2009 (UTC) Mariah Daily is a more reliable source than a newspapers gossip column. So I Want To Know What Love Is should not be in confirmed songs either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.148.247.177 (talk) 22:55, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

" Crystal "Cri$tyle" Johnson

You have to be blind not to see that her Tweets are saying she is working with mariah on this new album! "Me and MC in studio vibin to Breakdown...what a classic!" [they are listening to one of her songs and she says MC, "Hmm now we vibin to Heartbreaker! "U got the best of me..." Now Honey...so many to go thru lol..,"[again .. they listen to more of her songs] "4am... Still in studio....we In for the long run! Lol" [Mariah always works late at night/early in the morning on this new album], "When yal wake up...I'm just goin to sleep!! Jus now leavin studio..Almost & hotel..in traffic ugh." So stop deleteing that she is working with her, when it is clear she is! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Willallen93 (talkcontribs) 03:06, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Better yet, why don't you find verifiable, reliable sources for your material before you add it. Twitter certainly isn't one.—Kww(talk) 03:26, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

You're right Twitter isn't .. but the actual person IS! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Willallen93 (talkcontribs) 03:56, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Exactly. Now all you have to do is find a reliable source reporting statements by the actual person, and you're fine.—Kww(talk) 04:13, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

She did, whether Twitter is "legit" or not, she has said it herself which makes it official! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Willallen93 (talkcontribs) 04:19, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Confirmed Tracks

  • Obsessed
  • H.A.T.E.U.
  • Impossible
  • Standing O
  • Candy Bling
  • I Want To Know What Love Is

These tracks were confirmed at a listening party in Hong Kong here is the link: http://newmusicreviews.net/mariah-carey-memoirs-of-a-imperfect-angel-listening-preview-in-hong-kong-new-songs-revealed/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxxie Blu (talkcontribs) 20:47, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Why is the confirmed tracks section not on the article? and someone keeps spelling "Obsessed" wrong like "Obssessed". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.247.5.77 (talk) 04:07, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

There isn't a confirmed section because how can you say the track-listing is confirmed until there is an official track-listing released? anything and everything could change. There isn't a recorded song section either because the only primary source for recorded songs is Mariah's twitter. the general concensus is that twitter is ok as a source for a few things but the entire article should not be made up of tweets from twitter. all other sources/reviews cite twitter as their source. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 14:29, 8 August 2009 (UTC))

Article Issues

Right this article is in a terrible state.

Here are the main concerns:

  1. too much information is sourced from twitter.
  2. a lof of info has been inserted inbetween references.
  3. Obssessed is only a promo single... this needs to be corrected.
  4. the album needs a better introduction (see WP:albums)
  5. the section "confirmed tracks" needs to be removed (see WP:crystal and WP:verifiability) and replaced with a section called "recorded tracks". nothing is confirmed until it is actually released.
  6. all recorded songs need a reference.
  7. producers need a reference too
  8. release dates need sources and the intro/infobox should match in terms of what the first release date is.
  9. singles shouldn't have their own section.

someone should correct these, if not i will do so myself and some of you might be unhappy but we must comply to wikipedia rules. See WP:verifiability, WP:notability, WP:crystal, WP:albums, WP:encyclopedic and WP:citations. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 16:56, 17 July 2009 (UTC))

see Fantasy Ride or Battlefield for examples of how albums should be set out. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 17:42, 17 July 2009 (UTC)) Maybe you can add a promotion section like they did for Whitney's new album? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.247.5.77 (talk) 19:39, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Clean-up

the article requires a serious clean-up. the use of twitter as a major source is debatable. it might be ok if used once or twice but to base an entire article in twitter is ridiculous. a lot of this article needs deleting, copy-editing and re-organising. it should not be a live news feed - thats what twitter itself is for!!! (Lil-unique1 (talk) 14:54, 26 July 2009 (UTC))

i agree 100%. i dont like the use of twitter as a source at all, theres never any concrete proof that is actually the person who is writing it. but moat of this article is based on twitter its stupid. the user that kept adding it has now been blocked from editing, so now we can begin tidying it up without having to revert his additions all the time Mister sparky (talk) 15:33, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Mariah herself is confirming it and people listening like Essence. Do you really think Essence is a fake account? If it came from a magazine, there's no prof they really said that. If it came from TV, no proof it wasn't edited a certain way. Saying Twitter doesn't count is ridiculous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.124.76.236 (talk) 09:03, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

no one is saying twitter doesnt count, however it is a wikipedia policy not to over-rely on one source and hence we are limiting the use of twitter in this article. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 14:52, 2 August 2009 (UTC))

Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel is the twelfth studio album by Contemporary R&B artist, Mariah Carey. Originally the album was scheduled to be released on August 25th to meet the Grammy eligibility deadline. Although this was a good release date, Mariah was still putting the finishing touches on the album and the release date did not give her enough time to perfect the album to her standards. As a result, the album was pushed back to September 15th. A couple days after the new confirmed release date, Island Records and Mariah Carey decided that this was also an unrealistic release date as Carey is still putting the finishing touches of Memoirs. The album has been pushed back again and is now scheduled for a September 29th release. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shortstop356 (talkcontribs) 01:07, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

New Confirmed/Recorded Tracks

These should be added to the list: Inseparable, Up Out My Face, Angels Cry, More Than Just Friends, Betcha, It's A Wrap. They were confirmed on MariahDaily.com which also has a link to the source. www.mariahdaily.com/

Also, 'I Want To Know What Love Is' should be shown as the next/first single, if 'Obsessed' was actually a promo release.

Looks like this has already been done.—C45207 | Talk 20:54, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

"Imperfect" is another recorded track, but unlike the rest, Mariah herself said this song will not be on the album itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.231.34.43 (talk) 20:50, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

"Singles"

"Obsessed" is still the first single.... I mean, it had a full radio release, a digital AND physical release, and a music video prepared for it. I know that certain blogs have been calling the new single the "first" "official" single, but it doesn't negate the fact that "Obsessed" was a single. Regardless of whether or not the single "bombed" or was released "for fun", it was still a full single release. SKS (talk) 14:14, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Editing

Any particular reason that an article about an album that has yet to be released is locked from editing. Is the administrator or the person overseeing this article that much of a Mariah Carey fan that no one else can even put in their two cents worth? Tsk, tsk, tsk... this doesn't make any sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.192.176.30 (talk) 23:00, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Release Date

I agree with all these people complaining that we Mariah fans who actually know the real facts, cannot edit this page! "Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel" is to be released on September 29th not September 28th! Urggh! No CD ever got released on a Monday! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shortstop356 (talkcontribs) 16:26, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Response to last 3 questions

  1. despite what mariah says "obsessed" is the first single, if she was unhappy with its performance tough, that's her problem but at the end of the day it was released as the project's first single. end of story.
  2. the album was locked from editing because a number of IPs kept abusign the article by stuffing it with twitter sources and false confirmed tracks.
  3. in the UK albums are always released on a Monday and hence often the CD is released first in the UK a day before the US. US albums are always released on Tuesday. WP:album#infobox clearly states that the earliest release date goes first hence 28 sept goes in the infobox. hence 28 september goes first. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 20:41, 25 August 2009 (UTC))

---First of all Mariah never said it wasnt the first single. a stupid magazine said it so dont say that she was unhappy with anything if you didnt hear it come from her of her management. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.167.29 (talk) 00:38, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

actually it is widely reported by Mariah's new manager and representative that Mariah has branded "obsessed" as a summer fun single but the lead single from the project will be "i want to know what love is". If your unhappy anout how things have panned out that is your problem but here on wikipedia we stick to the facts. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 15:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC))

--once again. she never said it wasnt the 1st single. obsessed IS a fun summer record but they are going to fully promote I WAnt To Know What Love Is because she only did one prformance of Obsessed. its still the 2nd single. Obsessed is a hit even though yall think eveything has to be #1. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.167.65 (talk) 21:25, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Quotes

Is it really necessary to have such long quotes about the album on this page? SKS (talk) 20:15, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

NOPE hence they've been removed. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 22:21, 3 September 2009 (UTC))

Track listing format

Since there are not that many producers & songwriters that worked on the album , i suggest that a simple track listing should be ok. Most of the songs are written by Mariah C., The Dream, Tricky & produced by them as well, so only additional writers should be added & samples. (MariAna Mimi 19:16, 5 September 2009 (UTC))

I kind of agree but i would like this section to remain as it is until the sourcing issue has been addressed. once sourced/once we know exactly who has written/produced each song with a credible source then can decide what the best course of action is. (Lil-unique1 (talk) 19:54, 5 September 2009 (UTC))

Too many reviews

There are now 14 reviews within the infobox when guidelines state there should be no more than 10. Anyone want to take a stab at paring that down without appearing to favor the good or the bad. Thanks. --Wolfer68 (talk) 19:14, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

it's interesting, because the reviews are extremely mixed. there's one out there calling the album horrible (1/5 stars, by the New York Daily News), and that AP review calling it perfection. Maybe a more comprehensive reviews section is in order, with only major reviews (national papers?) in the infobox? SKS (talk) 19:23, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Samples/ Interpolations etc.

I like the fact that the used samples and interpolations are listed, I just wanted to let you know, whoever is responsible for this article, that some are missing or incomplete. Accordingh to the exclusive Elle magazine (the album's booklet)"It's A Wrap" contains elements from "I Belong To You" by Love Unlimited Orchestra, written by Barry White; "The interpolations used in "More Than Just Friends" is titled "One More Chance/ Stay With Me (remix)" and "The Impossible" and "The Impossible (the reprise)" contains interpolations from "Forever My Lady" by Joddeci, written by Albert Brown & Donald Degrate. Thank you in advance for adding these information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.75.88.129 (talk) 08:51, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Questionable sales in Korea....

I know that she received a "Platinum Disc" plaque from Universal Korea, but interestingly, there are absolutely no news reports of her going #1 in Korea, nor selling enough copies to go platinum. My search of "Mariah Carey platinum" in Google news doesn't turn up any results outside of her receiving this plaque. The best I can get is "캐리는 이날 기자회견장에서 유니버셜 레코드로부터 플래티넘 레코드를 수여받고 카메라 앞에 기쁨의 포즈를 취하기도 했다", which (when translated) reads, "On this press conference day, Universal Records presented Carey with a Platinum Record, and she happily posed in front of the cameras." The article is from the JoongAng Ilbo, here. SKS (talk) 07:14, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I think that's good enough. It's not hard to sell 10,000 copies in one week in such a big country for an artist like her. I believe the head of Universal Music Korea presenting her with a Platinum plaque is validation enough Jayy008 (talk) 19:35, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

So it is 10,000. Well, I'd be happy with any outside saying she sold 10,000 copies. SKS (talk) 19:47, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

H.A.T.E.U (3rd single)

Why was the H.A.T.E.U page deleted when it is confirmed as the 3rd single and is being released to radio next month? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.167.230 (talk) 15:28, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Please read Wikipedia's criteria for song notability. When all the info we have is just about its release, it's not notable enough. It can be recreated when it actually charts or receives coverage from third-party sources. SKS (talk) 17:12, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

ok, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.167.101 (talk) 02:18, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Brazil stats (FYI)

Although MariahCarey.com is saying that the album hit #1 in Brazil, the official stats say otherwise (see here)). It appears that the site is using hot100brasil.com as a source, which does say that the album is #1. However, please note that the chart is on WP:BADCHARTS. That's why the info keeps getting removed. SKS (talk)

Memoirs tracklisting etc

Wow, looks like some very good people on the new features album, I can't wait to hear, I just hope it's all "correct" all the links are broken, was it really posted on Honey B Fly or is someone just saying so? Carey has said in various interviews she would be in trouble if she mentioned alot about her new project so I can't see how they would freely post it.

Also for "It's A Wrap" (Normal album) why is Barry White a writer for it when he's dead? Jayy008 (talk) 22:25, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Barry White is listed because a sample of one of his songs is used. Buy the album and read the credits... there you'll see Barry White. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.28.35.52 (talk) 13:04, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't know that, so I'm guessing she wrote the entire song by herself minues the sample. Jayy008 (talk) 16:33, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Indeed. At the moment, the tracklisting is inaccurate as it states nearly all the album was co-wrote/produced with Tricky and The-Dream and ignores that they weren't involved in some tracks. Not to mention, it is a cluttered eye-sore and a pain to read. This one works so much better in every way and should be the more appropriate choice of tracklisting.

Chart Restrictions

Because we are limited to 18 charts maximum i recommend that Austria is removed when the album charts in the UK because of the size of the music markets. We are already on 18 charts and it is more important for the uk to be included compared to austria. what do you think? (Lil-unique1 (talk) 15:24, 29 November 2009 (UTC))

New Singles

Shouldn't one of yall be making single pages for Angels Cry and Up Out My Face (Remixes) since they have been confirmed as the new singles off the remix album?

Underperforming

MOAIA is clearly underperforming and is selling way below expectations. It has not even sold 500,000 copies worldwide and will probably never do so. It has gained the reputation of a "flop" throughout the internet and even by the press. Something should be mentioned about this. i have several links to serious articles calling this album a "flop" or a "failure". Also, it is simply obvious that it is not going well at all, single & album wise. I believe that something should be written about this. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.167.109.12 (talk) 18:30, 14 December 2009 (UTC) The album has already sold more than 500,000 worldwide sweetheart so get your facts straight. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.167.126 (talk) 00:29, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

There is no point of redoing the page. The album sales are near accurate, and reviews of the album on both extremes, positive, and negative, have been posted. I'm sorry, but we are not just going to redo this entire page and just talk about how big of a flop the album is and how embarresed Mariah should be over the albums's lukewarm performance. Seth71 (talk) 20:53, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

The lambs are taking over wikipedia... oh well! This album is a major flop and you lambs fail to accept it. Since when did blogs have anything to do with wikipedia? This album was praised more than any of her previous albums in the 2000-09 decade so just because it 'underperformed' doesnt change the fact it had good reviews. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.171.167.56 (talk) 03:37, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Agreed that there is incorrect information about her in the article, like the 'millemnium award' that does not exist, but these are trivia. It did not seem to do well, but 'flop' is a judgement, this is an encyclopedia and should be as factual as possible, people can judge for themselves and see that it did not do well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drmariorossi (talkcontribs) 19:58, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Commercial performance

Is this really sentence really essential to the article:

Two weeks after release it debuted on the UK'S R&B Albums Chart at number eight[81] but fell to number 12 in its second week [82] and subsequently to number 18 in its third week[83], 21 in its fourth week[84] but by January 23, 2010 had fallen out of the Top-40.[85]

This is not a fan website; I think the peak position is enough information, the rest is trivia. Reidlos (talk) 22:07, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "japcert":

  • From Touch My Body: "Certifications: November 2010" (in Japanese). Recording Industry Association of Japan. Retrieved 2011-08-04.
  • From E=MC² (Mariah Carey album): "Certifications: March 2008". Oricon (in Japanese). Recording Industry Association of Japan. 2008-03-10. Retrieved 2011-08-09.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 20:20, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

I see. Do you have a list of mags & websites that would be reliable sources in terms of sales amounts? Geegeeyee (talk) 17:37, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

2 million?

I was wondering if the 2 million worldwide would be possible?

There are two articles that mention Memoirs selling 2 million globally: https://www.nickiswift.com/4619/rise-fall-resurgence-mariah-carey/ // https://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/apr/26/wit-wisdom-mariah-carey-savvy-diva-self-aware-pop-star & A main amazon music review mentions that too https://www.amazon.com/-/es/gp/customer-reviews/R10X6W0MLSZLUW?ASIN=B002DSM8UC

Mariah's label at the time, Def Jam, reffered to the album as a "multi-million seller," which most realistically would be just barely 2 million. (that page was removed & the link just leads to the home page)

press releases for Merry Christmas II You also reffer to Memoirs as a multi-million seller https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/mariah-carey-completes-merry-christmas-ii-you---second-holiday-album-from-the-greatest-singer-of-our-time-arriving-november-2nd-103277289.html // https://m.takealot.com/mariah-carey-merry-christmas-ii-you-cd/PLID14539299/description?utm_referrer=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F

most sites that have mentioned the album's sales at least agree it sold 1m+ globally. 2M is most likely *not* pure sales though. I don't imagine it selling 2m pure, but 2m with units seems possible. Geegeeyee (talk) 09:36, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

none of those are reliable sources. We also wouldn't refer to the label for confirmation of this as sources need to be independent and reliable → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - (Talk) - 13:16, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Memoirs sales

charts in france says Memoirs sold 1m. would this be acceptable to add to the wiki?
